Problem with PayPal?

Post by flashgc » Fri Dec 26, 2003 10:07 pm

It's not terribly difficult to find a horror story about anyone doing business on the web.... as my Dad used to say, "If somebody isn't pissed at ya then you aren't doing any business." I've used PP for several years now, to pay and get paid, with never a hitch.

I'm hoping to implement some 'elevated services' on my site and will certainly use PP when I do. Case in point... I just bought a year's subscription to FARK for the wife for Xmas. I asked her for her login details on FARK and two minutes later she logged on as a 'Total FARKer'. She was amazed how quick it happened.

That's the kind of 'easy on the user' that I'm looking for.
Where are we going and why am I in this handbasket?

PayPal gets a thumbs up from me too; have never had a problem with them specifically...

**tis little different from other online banking, credit-card, or financial transaction services that also require caution and good online security laced with prudence regarding whom you are dealing rather more so than the medium for transactions; some obviously better than others, but PP is still very good IMO**

**clicks over to Merriam-Webster to look up "Total FARKer" :) **
Help, at least do no harm.

That's actually pretty easy.

In your page header (or somewhere else) you do a query to find out if the current user is a member of group x. If they are, you do a $template-->asssign_block_vars thingy to give them a switch. Something like...

Code: Select all

if member of paid group then
$template -> assign_block_vars('switch_paid_group', array);
else
$template -> assign_block_vars('switch_freeloaders_group', array);
endif
then in your template files, you give the hyperlink to the specified pages to these groups...

Code: Select all

<-- BEGIN switch_paid_group
hyperlink to search
<-- END switch_paid_group

Easy as pie on the fourth of july...

Here is my question. It might have already been answered. I am making a forum and i will be charging members at registration and every 6 months. What is the best way of going about this. There will be no free membership. Is there a way at registration to charge them before making them an active user? and then 6 months after make there account inactive untill they pay again?

Hello,

So anyone has come up with a solution to this problem? I want to have one of the forums that is on a subscription based.
