Bandwidth requirement

I would like to see if anyone can give me a ballpark figure for what bandwidth would be required in a month for a 20 user connection average using phpBB

I don't know how hard this question may be to answer so just throwing it out to see to know what hosting limit I would pay for to get what I need.

Thanks

What do you mean a "20 users average"? Do you mean there's a total of 20 visits per month (which is very low), or having 20 users online at any time (which is very high)?

20 users online average at any time..
no.. not visits per month.. that would be way low.. :)

When I say average.. I know sometimes there would be 30-50 on at one time.. but at night it might be less than 10.. which is why i said 20 average.. hope that makes the question a bit clearer

Well I think that is similar to what this board gets. Maybe some admins could take their statistics out...

Yeah that would be fine... this forum is a bit more than 20 but at least then I would know a good figure to guestimate by.. It's 3:30 here and we still have 28 on during low end time. I've seen over 100 on here before.. so.. I'd say it probably averages 50 anyhow.

To be honest, it's hard to say. Depending if you have GZip on, what types of templates, how many images, if private messaging is enabled, and a lot of factors. It's hard to give a ballpark figure. I'd try, but I only have a couple of users on my forum. :(

Yep.

If you remove all the pictures and put text there instead, it wouldn't be as loaded.

I own my own server and I host many other forums and what you are asking depends on alot of things, lol, ( like how much a car cost) well all I can say is that my site+forums which has 300-900 visits a day runs about 5 GB's per month, IL2 which is a gamer site+forums has about 3500 visits a day , uses 40 GB's per month, and CFS forums, a flight sim site+forums has 2000 visits a day and has a big download section, uses 50 GB's per month. I hope this helps.

I'd say if you are concerned about bandwidth turn on Gzip and choose a lite theme with fewer, and smaller images. The main trade off with Gzip is it will put a bigger load on your CPU, that may or may not be a problem.
