Post by vispa »

Hi,

Not sure if your aware, but you might want to see http://www.hotscripts.com/Detailed/30837.html

It appears that someone is distributing phpbb as there own, called Free Forum???

Just thought you might like to know.

Nothing illegal in that, phpBB is GPLd.

You can't even download whatever BBS they're offering, it just seems to be a place to harbor pop-ads and other useless crap.
It's better to fail at doing something then to excel at doing nothing.

The image set is not, but subSilver is GPL.

No worries.....just thought I would bring to your attention. Not quite sure what phpbb GPL covers myself.....just seems a bit wrong in my view.

Seems that Hotscripts no longer checks what is added to it.

phpBB Downloads Page wrote: The subSilver SDK is not released under the GPL and is not subject to that licence.

Has the license changed, and the page not updated? Or is subSilver still restricted as per the Downloads page? Just looking to confirm... or am I missing something specific?

Never mind, I think I figured it out... the template files are part of the GPL, but the images referenced by the template files are not. Is that correct?

Everything in the archive is covered by the GPL. The subSilver SDK/GDK is not ... it's use is restricted under an alternative licence.

By image set I meant the SDK/GDK.

However, the FreeForum deleted the copyright information for phpBB. The bottom of their page now says:
© 2004 Free-Forum

If Richard Yields can "make money online", you'd think he'd at least be able to pay for hosting, rather than use a frame to hide his real domain at http://www.freecredits.thefreeserver.com/forum/ .
