What's the catch?

Post by VitalyB » Tue May 14, 2002 3:42 pm

That's the first time I stumbled upon phpBB, I'm now considering a forum for my site, and while UBB and vBulletin look quite good, phpBB looks far better (to me) and it is also free. So what's the catch here? What the major lacking feature or something??

sorry, locking.

...But, just to assure you - there's no catch. It's just a bunch of dedicated people who believe that every website should be able to have forums for free, hence our old slogan, phpBB: Forums For Free!

Yes, we strive our hardest to provide you with a fast, free, and stable forum with loads of features just like the ones you pay big bucks for. Check out those websites for un-biased information, yes. :)

Apache? What, a webserver that is considered more secure than others by many? What, there are more sites running apache than all other servers put together? What's the catch?

Linux? A great OS, particularly as a server, for free?? and all the software for it is free too? What's the catch?

Ahhhh, the glory of the GPL. But where would it be without the good-hardworking OSS programmers? Damn I love them. My goal in life is to make a scatload of cash (haven't figured out how to do that yet) and then just work on writing OSS, because its so damn useful.... to everyone!

Besides with all the dedicated people working on it where else could you get so much help. PHPBB is excellent Forum software that is improving all the time, just take a look at the MODS forum. BTW Kanuck which slogan is it PHPBB: Forums for free or GO LEAFS GO ? :D

I like that one, too :)

We'll need to make quick work of the Canes, and hope the Detroit-Colorado series is just as bloody as ever. That should give us the edge in the finals :)

But anyways, this thread will NOT go off-topic on my account. Not that there really was a topic to begin with...

Okay, PSO says this discussion is pointless, and I tend to agree. And now it's offtopic... I'm gonna lock it, and hopefully the other moderators will let it die :)
