Development team isn't decided yet, and yet you created a group? I hope the members aren't frozen...

You all needed some pushing so up came a group :) You can't sit around for x months deciding who's going to code the thing ... you've had several people volunteer (including yourself) along with Bart, who's not only an excellent coder and knows his way around MySQL and PHP but also has a good insight into the 'deeper' working of 2.0 and perhaps more importantly many of the things planned for it in the future.

As I said I am not sure if a portal system (which might get really big) will be possible to realise with 4 guys...

In my opinion there should be two leaders + 6 devs. what do you think about? :)

I think that's way to large, especialy in the beginning.. Try to get consensus with such a large group, that's not a lot of fun :D

As I said, it's fairly easy to increase the group size if need arises.

Indeed, two leaders covering the same stuff for the same project would be interesting to see ... :D When they've finished arguing with each other they can perhaps go and collect their pensions :)

ok 8 people might be to much at the beginning but 5-6 would be good.

Now I have managed some sites and we were always two guys... there were no problems :) 'cause if the first one doesn't want to do this job, the other one does it :)

It's not a case of 'one not doing the job of the other', this is (and more than like at some stage _will_ become) a case of one lead saying "We should do this x way!" while the other says "No, it should be done this way!". With two leads there is no one person (aside from James) who simply says "It'll be done z way". You just don't work this way, at least not for long :)

As for the numbers of people ... you do not want too many people on this project at the beginning, you can take my word for it or not I really don't mind but I'm confident in what I say, as is Bart and as will I suspect many people who've been involved in group projects of any kind ... start small and grow.

the plan is to start of with 3-5 (max 5!) and build the core framework
then you can add dev's like crazy for each of the modules

but in the early stages you need a few smart guys making the right choices ... and very important you need someone that can make the calls when people are undecided
