As long as you don't have to actually pronounce phpPP there is no problem :) Typing it is extremely easy ;)

If we're going for something else then it shouldn't be WASP IMO.. What would it stand for anyway? Using an acronym only because it sounds cool is kind of foolish IMO :) But my main concern with WASP is that it's a name that has been used for LOTS of things..

Do you want me to go on? :D Lots and lots of other projects that are called 'WASP'..

Really? How come the "P" is beginning to wear off the p key on my keyboard then?

So is picking a name that sounds stupid more sensible then? ;)

Well, we'll just have to make sure that this is the one that people associate with the name.

I totally agree wuth Bart!

First of all, you'll have to TYPE phpPP much more than you actually SAY it.
Second, the name wasp not only sounds out of place and silly for such project, but also has been used TONS of times! I even know of a bulgarian project, called WASP...

I cast my vote already.

Also, it should be the devs (Bart, Kanuck, Jay...) choosing the final name, this poll simply shows the fans preference, right?

Black Pit, you know what I did yesterday? I went to my friends at the British Council here, in Bulgaria and asked them: which one is easier to pronounce: phpPP or phpBB. They found both hard to say. But no. I'm not nervours, as wasp is not going to win unless the devs decide otherwise. :)

edit { Just notices the ciaran01's avatar! That's cruel, poor baby... :}

I just had to stop by and see what's up ... busy redoing 2 systems ... OS X and a piece meal wintel box.

phpPP and wasp are hmmm ... somewhat boring ... the other names too.

phpPP fits with phpBB but that's about it ... WASP as in hornet or bee (logo included then ok)

Otherwise W.A.S.P comes to mind first then S.W.A.T next how about FOB / JAP (the religious type and the other country type) sorry folks these acronyms have to many conotations ... do you want to be pegged as prejudice? I hope not!

how about javelin?

You're aimimg to break nuke, or UBB [belch] or vB [same-o-same-o] ?

great programmers and designers here what about writers? definately need somebody like that! Ask Jeff from intrahost.com to post at some of the boards he visits ... I believe he tested his catch phrase at a board ... even got lots of great ideas.

either way looking forward to a CVS after you all stop gossiping and start organizing.

good luck and look forward to another amazing product.

I had to go with WASP. The whole mascot thing seems very cool. Given the name has been used elsewhere, it is still cool.

Another thing to think about is word of mouth referrals. WASP will be much easier to say and remember than phpPP. Its pretty easy to type too. Plus how cool would it be to have "Powered by WASP © 2002 phpBB Group" at the bottom of the page. 8) And as you can see, the association is still there. :D

I think it would be interesting to see what the people who voted third party would pick, now that there is a big two. :D

In that case, I CALL DIBS ON THE PHPPP NAME!. It is now the name of my incredible project, Pit's Hilarious Purple-Polkadot Project.
