Ok then, here's a few ideas:
  • Legion (as in "My name is Legion", or in a Roman theme)
Socrates (as in "I drank what?")
Plato (as in Portal Linking All The Others or some such crap)
Pico (as in Portal Intelligent COntent, unlike this name)
    24hours (because it's not a valid variable name) :p
For pure logo potential, try "Cameltoe"

I've been thinking about a name for a while now.. honestly i don't like any of these name too much.. too "computery" or something.. we need to get creative.. why not come up with a bad a$$ logo and then name it after a cool logo.. i was thinking like "Squished Brains Content Management".. i really don't like the word portal just too plain.. anyway i figure the logo could be a wax stamp in the back ground.. with a carrtoon brain and cartoon foot squishing a brain... it would be kinda cool.. but anyway just brain storming  heck why not "Brain Storm Content Management" :D just thoughts...

see we can think of WAY cooler names than what we have here... and we can say in the credits or in the footer "powered by phpBB" etc to give them credit...

How about you devs just pick a project name, as in "Project Delphi" or some stupid name, but not anything that would be the final name, and when the first alpha is nearly ready, we can all have a nice big argument...I mean...debate over it? Because IMHO this is beginning to seriously hold up development, which is not a good thing.

Just looking over suggestions, biology I think is a good tie .. cos of the "alive" connotations .. I saw osmosis (NO!) and chasm .. made me think of genetics (the building blocks of life) ... and the point at which two chromosomes (the proteins which store the dna) cross over , chiasma

Yeah, just choose a name (phpPP looks ok;)) and let's move on...!

And Pit, your sig looks distorted or something like this... gee, it looks like shit. I suppose wrong width/height properties?

I have no care as to the project name (If there is one) as long as the final name is ANYTHING(!) but phpPP. I do think it would be sensible, however, to use a totally different thing for the project name than any of the ones listed above.

Why not just take the cheesy path (albeit a quick path to get started) and call it something like Project Solstice... Basically implying the key dates of December 22nd and June 22nd. Why? You can have the core features settled on by the 22nd (the winter solstice) and take a break for Christmas and whatnot. Then try and have a working portal system (even if it is just a beta) by June 22nd (the summer solstice). This way, the non-particpants have a rough idea when to expect releases of information and/or products (around each solstice) and it gives your dev team target dates to get things done.
