user prevention

Post by lemartini » Tue Mar 07, 2006 5:28 pm

I have a user who likes to sign up day after day as a member.
He is a spammer and is directing people to:

http://www.ffp.newmail.ru

plus an html tag that takes you to porn or nokia phone pages

I have been deleting his membership ...

Is there a way I can prevent him from joining as a member
if he is often posting the this url (http://www.ffp.newmail.ru) and using multiple fake emails?

Martini He is the last four or five members at

This person is manually assisting a bot. It was the first one to ever get past my methods outlined in Fighting spam registration bots, and was only able to do it once.

You can manually (through phpmyadmin) add entries to your ban table for "*.ru", "*.ro", and similar, but he was using a HOTMAIL address when he hit mine, and using a proxy in South Africa to hit our site.

Thanks, I'll look these over and give them a try.
