Is banning 127.0.0.1 safe?

Post by Vv. »

On a small board (so this may be a classic) I have found a member with localhost-IP posting spammessages.

Found 3 more members which seem not to have used their accounts yet.

As I want to prevent more forum-abuse I would like to ban IP 127.0.0.1 though I can imagine this is used within phpBB itself.

Can I safely ban localhost?

I dont see how you could have a user with the IP of local host.
If you have FTP ablities , I would suggest downloading your whole phpbb file to your computer then banning that IP just encase of a problem.
If you have phpmyadmin than I'd suggest banning the IP and then if there's a problem unban it from phpmyadmin.

It suddenly crossed my mind that - during some kind of spam stress - I might had fooled myself looking up all these IP's via a IP-upon-reg-mod, which stopped working correctly. (Because of update or whatever.)

And indeed.. :(
Sorry for posting so quickly but was urgent. So thanks anyway.
