New to phpbb - quick question

Post by beggersrun »

I've search the boards and can't find the answer. I am currently a FP2000 user and am trying to get away from using it's discussion board. This one (phpbb) looks excellent! However ...

My server tells me that I will need to 'set up' the database first before using phpbb ... or any other bb for that matter. He does support mysql as well as other popular databases.

Can anyone tell me ... is phpbb all I need to continue? ... will I need to set up the database first? ... will phpbb take care of all of that during settup?

Many thanks!!!

Dale

You say he "does not support mySQL". Does this mean that you cannot have a mySQL database? This is essential to phpBB, if you can't get a mySQL database, you can't use phpBB.

A compatible database has to be created/set up first. phpBB will create the tables in the database during the install. From there all you need to do is modify the forum as you see fit and integrate it with your site.

When you go to install phpBB you will need to know your DB name, password, DB location and kind of DB your server is running.
