Customized Registration Process

Post by bhummel »

I want to be able to offer my suggestions to new users as they register.

An ideal place to do this would be on each line of the registration form in the big blank space to the right of each selection.

For example, I would like to suggest that users do not hide their online status, or that they DO hide their email names (spammers you know).

Is there a way I can imbed my short two or three word suggestions in the registration area?

While I am on a roll ...

Is there a way that I can change the field descriptions in the Registration area?

For example, instead of asking a new user what his Yahoo IM address is, I would rather know if he is a Club Member or not?

Assuming you're not using multiple languages on your board, you can probably just edit /templates/(template name)/profile_add_body.tpl and add the comments there.

Well, if you want it in one line without any work, you open the language_main.php and you search for example (Ctrl + F) the word in the registration and afterwards you add something...

I would model this after the way that the avatar stuff is done. If you look in the template, you'll see some template variables called {WHATEVER_EXPLAIN}. Then in the language file, you'll find

Code: Select all

$lang['Whatever_explain'] = 'Some text here';
Finally, in the php file, you'll find the assignment for

Code: Select all

'WHATEVER_EXPLAIN' => $lang['Whatever_explain'],
So just add whatever new explain variables you want to the language file(s), assign them to the template in the php file, and display them in the template following the same pattern already in use. 8)

Is there a way to prevent users from hiding their online status?

Cindy: This is a very common question. Please use the search engine.

Gravyplaya: Look up the ALTER TABLE SQL function :)
