AutoMod install - GENERAL ERROR

Post by ForwardMover »

I have previously installed automod w/o problems.

However, this time I just installed phpBB3 and followed it with an attempted automod installation. Installed but got following error when attempting to open Automod tab:
General Error
template->_tpl_load_file(): File ./style/acp_mods.html does not exist or is empty

Please notify the board administrator or webmaster: email address
Any solutions?

Thanks

PS I should also add that I so far am not able to uninstall the automod

Normally this error only means that you need to re-upload the /adm/style/acp_mods.html file. The file is included in the AutoMOD download package.

tpl_load_file(): File ./style/acp_mods.html

I have the same error

I can run http://www.xxxx.com/style/acp_mods.html

why isnt automod locating the file ?

UPDATE ****** I figured it out

Thanks SAJAKI but thats not the reason heres the fix for anyone that needs it

ok first off Phpp has a default folder named (adm) for your admin panel This is without Automod installed
now when you install automod it installs with a folder adm so it would overwrite it :(

[...*REMOVED INCORRECT/INVALID ADVICE*...]

THIS IS BAD PROGRAMMING BY CREATING AND NAMING A FOLDER CALLED adm

this also conflicts as there is already an adm folder created and it will overwrite it

This is extremely poor ******************************************************* SERIOUSLY WTF are developers thinking
this will ruin your adm panel no wounder people have so much trouble installing it

Never name folders adm /admin etc etc etc this is for security reasons !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The reason you get that error is that /adm/index.php is missing

/adm/style/acp_mods.html

so this file should reside in the style subdirectory of /adm.

not in
style/acp_mods.html

So let me get this straight. You renamed default phpBB folders or moved them around, installed AutoMOD, things broke, and now it's the developers' fault? This is akin to moving the system32 directory in Windows and then blaming Microsoft because nothing works...

The ticket you filed for this, btw, is hardly a security issue.

I would :!: strongly :!: advise everyone to not follow any of the loads of nonsensical "advise" on "fixing" contained in that (intentionally snipped) post.

I have to point out that renaming the adm directory and then installing AutoMOD is rather pointless since pretty much any MOD that adds a module to the ACP includes file copy commands that specify the adm directory in them. There are other MODs that modify the contents of the adm directory as well. So you'd have to check and edit every single MOD before even attempting to install via AutoMOD.

P.S. responding to the security tracker email doesn't actually post your response to the tracker. You have to follow the link within the email if you wanted to actually add a comment, just like you would handle a topic reply email.

IF its nonsensical how come I had to do this to get it to work
do you think I just dream this sh*t up WTF !!! who are ya lol

I bet anyone that has installed a new theme and cant get the automod
working that my post would have helped them
ahh well you guys know it all your the wizards behind the curtain

DavidIQ hmm the name says it all ( theres a saying a little infomation can be a dangerous thing )
WINDOWS ??? why are you taking about windows for I'm a linux user dohhhh

stop assuming & stop thinking you know it all mr David(IQ) LOL

I stand corrected THIS IS REGAURDING a differnt style if you are using prosilver
or the defauts the instructions will not work sorry SAJAKA for not pointing that out
your instructions are perfect if they are using the default theme
SORRY !!!

ok guys first off the adm is a secuirty issuse !!!!!!!!
there are many perl admin finder scripts
Ive been attacking my forum and patching holes
and the adm folder is picked up through admin finder and other techqiues YOUR WRONG !!!!
I just hope your not apart of the secuirty team if you are God help the community

second off no I did not move things around and they broke please read the post
I rename the folder becuase of the security issue

there is the adm folder i.e admin panel folder I had already renamed the adm folder
when I installed the automod it created a adm folder so if I never rename the
main admin folder i.e adm to something else it would overwritten it and deleted the main
admin panel true ????? then my admin panel would be botched and all that would be in the adm
would be the automod and the main admin panel files would be gone
if im wrong correct me

and yes while the automod will create an adm folder for some applications
it worth while edit the config to rename directory so it sends the mods to the renamed folder
and YES Ive done this and YES its working

You know Im right lol just drink that bitter juice lol

Appologies...I thought you would be more familiar with just Windows and would be smart enough to be able to make the correlation. So in your case try moving the bin directory and expect everything to still work

Look if it were the case that it is a security issue then every single website in the world has a large security hole. Hosts use cPanel as part of the URl to forward to the site's control panel. WordPress uses wp-admin to give the user access to the administration side. vBulletin uses a common folder for admin access, etc etc. none of that is a security issue no matter how you put it. What IS a security issue is if there is easy access to the administration area from there. If you found a "hole" in this in phpBB, as you said, then be my guest and provide evidence of a security hole. phpBB 3 has had a pretty good security record since it came out so I'd be surprised if you actually report anything.

Bottom line is: you're absolutely and completely wrong about it being a security problem with there being a folder named adm in phpBB. I'd say that almost any software developer will laugh in your face for calling it a security issue.

But we are not talking about any adm folder are we ? we are talking about the admin panel folder not
just the automod folder why do you think the admin panel finder tools are made ????

Please what should we call the 'adm' folder then?

move it no renaming it yes renaming it doesnt move it

I gave instructions on how to do this but they were removed
hmm if the security things that leaving the adm named adm
fine and not a security issuse well I dont know what to say to that

I suppose I cant educate the secuirty team if there not educated on this
other than its back to 101 in security

Saying there is a security issue with the name of the folder is silly.
That is like saying that banks should not be named "Bank" because that makes them easy to find for the robbers.
