404 & 410 Errors when Installing AutoMOD

Post by vilhiem »

(thought I better start a new topic on this one as it may just be unique to me)

I'm having a somewhat different problem trying to install AutoMOD.

I uploaded everything as described here ... but when I go to launch the install ... I first get a "log-in" page to my forum (no problem) ... I log-in ... then it waits ... and I get a "404 Not Found" error AND I get this
"Additionally, a 410 Gone error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request. "

Any ideas ???

FYI ... my directory setup is as follows:
http://www.mysite.com/forum

and the install folder from which I'm trying to lauch is at:
http://www.mysite.com/forum/install

Thanks!!!

In looking around ... seems like I CANNOT upload the file ".htaccess"

That said ... could this be causing the problem?

I'm using Yahoo for my web host, and apparently they do not allow for this file to be uploaded.

Seen this message on another forum:
"...the name .htaccess refers to the main configuration file for
Apache, a popular open-source HTTP server. The .htaccess file can be
used to create custom error pages and web page redirects, set up
password protection, enable SSI, and more.

Yahoo! does not currently allow you to upload .htaccess files to your
account and currently there is no workaround for it. For other
customization options, we recommend the Custom Error Pages and
password-protection features available in your Web Hosting Control
Panel.

Thank you for your understanding in this regard."

The 404 error is a bug in phpBB. Users can usually work around it with the following steps:

a) Log into your phpBB site. Browse a couple of pages.
b) Now go to www.you.com/phpBB3/install/ to install AutoMOD. Since you should not get a login prompt, there will be no 404 error.

The 410 error is a problem with your web host's setup, and doesn't really affect this anyway. The .htaccess refusing to upload probably means you're on Windows hosting, and is also not a problem :)

Jelly,

Thank you for giving me the solution to my problem as well. By logging into the ACP, my install worked like a caharm.

Thanks,
a neophyte.
