Changing link placements

Ok guys I'm new to all this stuff so bare with me.
I'm looking toi change the placement of the forum links at the top of my forum, I want them to be side by side, how would I do this?
I also want to add a link or 2, one that goes to our main site and one that brings up the smilie list, I seen this on someones forum but I cant remember whos, anyway how would I do this?
