Tried to get the .TXT file at the beginning of the forum.
Came up with this in about 5 different text editors.

Probably you tried to edit file with MS Word or something like that and it screwed up file. Normal tpl file is just a usual text and you won't see those symbols in it. Use notepad.

The first thing I opened it with was Notepad. Then editpad, then MS word. Perhaps something is messed with my work machine. I'll try from home when I get there.

Your file may have been corrupted somehow, try downloading it again.

That was VERY helpful, but I still need to read up on styles so I can stop looking like Mr Default with subSilver...

I'm NOT a very technical person, even though my wife is an MCP, among other things... She watches me messing with Sports stuff and walks away laughing and shaking her head... So I'm on my own...

Ok, forgive me for being dumb but I am VERY new to all this and want to make sure I don't screw up before I even start! LOL

I have got specific graphics and stuff that I want to change on my forums... Can't stand subsilver and couldn't find much else that I preferred over these graphics...

So basically, when I rename the subsilver templates etc, do I also replace the graphics such as buttons etc to the ones I want to use?

I'm not too good at explaining so will very basically show you what I'm asking...
{ background-image: url(templates/subSilver/images/cellpic3.gif) }

Would I then replace that with something along the lines of templates/para/images/parabg.gif by deleting the background that is cellpic3.gif and adding my graphic that is parabg.gif (used purely as example!)

Sorry again for asking... But I was really pleased I'd got as far as I had without screwing things up so would like to have a continuance of good luck if I can! LOL

Whoops!

I think I must have done something wrong... I made a copy of subSilver, ok, I changed every subSilver to the name of my new style, ok, I added my new style to my forum, ok... but when I choose it from the profile, everything goes wrong!

As if there was not any style at all (white background, default browser colors, no forum :( ).

What can be wrong if I only changed every "subSilver" to my new style's name? :\

you don't need it. install.tpl is no longer used.

Did not find this one either "theme_info.cfg"

...other than that I changed all the references to my new template.

Thanks for all your help.

This one is required. Without theme_info.cfg you can't install style.

CyberAlien,

I checked out your site...very cool stuff?

How does one really get under the hood and play wuth the template. I know how to create one and I know how to change colrs and the graphics in subSilver..but how do I rearrange everything like you do?

That is what I have not found yet...getting under the hood documentation.

Thanks

Tim
