Forums on index in TWO columns.

Post by hcteks » Fri Sep 17, 2004 12:30 am

Hi folks,

I want to be able to show my forums on the index page in two columns. For example, normally the index page looks like this:

Forum 1
Forum 2
Forum 3
Forum 4

I was hoping to get it took something like this:

Forum 1 || Forum 2
Forum 3 || Forum 4

I imagine this would require some editing in the index.php file, but i have no idea where to start.

Thanks.

This requires a MOD to accomplish this as it can not be done with pure style adjustment. Requests for MODs can be placed in this forum:

How about mixing in a little javascript....

Within the forumrow, keep track of left-right and use document.write to create the appropriate table tags....

Code: Select all

<script language="Javascript">
<!--
leftcol=true;
//-->
</script>
<!-- BEGIN forumrow -->
<script language="Javascript">
<!--
if (leftcol)
    {
    document.write("<tr>");
    }
//-->
</script>
..... rest of forumrow (omit <tr> and </tr>.......
<script language="Javascript">
<!--
if (leftcol)
    {
    leftcol=false;
    }
    else
    {
    document.write("</tr>");
    leftcol=true;
    }
//-->
</script>
<!-- END forumrow -->
<script language="Javascript">
<!--
if (!leftcol)
    {
    document.write("<td colspan=5>&nbsp;</td></tr>");
    }
//-->
</script>

That is awesome. I just whipped that out off the top of my head....
Now anyone can use 2-column style without a mod to viewforum.php 8-)

I assume you had to double up the header row too...
