two topics side by side?

Post by michaeli98 » Mon May 28, 2007 3:35 am

How would I display two topics side by side in the same category?
Here is an example forum that I would like mine to look like.

Any suggestions?

Take a look at this older post of mine: horizontal forums, it will allow you to display your forums side by side horizontally rather than vertically. In you case, you would only have two forums per category for this to work.

Note that some content was removed for the example in the previous topic, so make sure you keep what you want in your own code.

Thanks GreenWeaver for a quick reply.

I followed your suggestions but that does not seem to work. Removing <tr> tag from catrow just continues topics indefinitely.
Here is what it looks like http://ximik.schastya.net/

Here is the code that I have

Code: Select all

  <!-- BEGIN catrow -->
  <tr>
	<td class="catLeft" colspan="8" height="25"><span class="cattitle"><a href="{catrow.U_VIEWCAT}" class="cattitle">{catrow.CAT_DESC}</a></span></td>
  </tr>
  <!-- BEGIN forumrow -->
	<td class="row1" align="center" valign="middle" height="30"><img src="{catrow.forumrow.FORUM_FOLDER_IMG}" width="26" height="25" alt="{catrow.forumrow.L_FORUM_FOLDER_ALT}" title="{catrow.forumrow.L_FORUM_FOLDER_ALT}" /></td>
	<td class="row1" width="50%" height="30"><span class="forumlink"> <a href="{catrow.forumrow.U_VIEWFORUM}" class="forumlink">{catrow.forumrow.FORUM_NAME}</a><br />
	  </span> <span class="genmed">{catrow.forumrow.FORUM_DESC}<br />
	  </span><span class="gensmall">{catrow.forumrow.L_MODERATOR} {catrow.forumrow.MODERATORS}</span></td>
	<td class="row2" align="center" valign="middle" height="30"><span class="gensmall">{catrow.forumrow.TOPICS}/{catrow.forumrow.POSTS}</span></td>
	<td class="row2" align="center" valign="middle" height="30" nowrap="nowrap"> <span class="gensmall">{catrow.forumrow.LAST_POST}</span></td>
  <!-- END forumrow -->
  <!-- END catrow -->
Any suggestions? Is there a way to wrap topics to the second row and so on? This forum seems to be able to do it.

I would like Topics horizontally (not just the forums).

I would be very interested in actually having topics side-by-side (not just the forums). The original post says topics.. but he was referring to forums. I must say, kudos to GreenWeaver, for the forum side by side display. It works perfectly. I am very pleased with that.

But, the question of really having the topics (actually the topics and not just the forums) horizontally displayed emerges. Would anyone know what would be needed to produce that same effect with the topics that GreenWeaver, accomplished with the forums?

Yes, the above technique is still pretty limited. We would need a MOD to display the forum and or topics in that format and hence I will be looking into it as and when I get some free time.

I was excited to see the email that you had replied to this topic, Greenweaver (because, at first, I thought you had solved it). But, still it is good to know that you will be looking into it. I can assure you that this would be a welcome and most appreciated MOD by a lot of people. The forums "fix," that you came up with, works like a charm and is very impressive. I wish you the best in your efforts to do the same for the topics.
