Updating the phpBB DB via ASP

Hi,

I'm a programmer in ASP (don't know PHP),
and I need to replace certain strings in some of the posts in my phpBB forum.

So, I have written an ASP script,
that reads the requested posts from the MySQL DB to a RecordSet,
analyzes the results, and finally updates those specific records.

The problem is:
While calling the recordset via
RS.Open SQL, ForumConnString, 2, 2

I get:
"Current Recordset does not support updating. This may be a limitation of the provider, or of the selected locktype."

Does anyone know how do I open the DB for updating using the ASP recordset?

Thanks!

moved to MOD writers discussion, though you probably won't get much help there for an ASP problem. I'd suggest that you post at a forum dedicated to ASP instead :)

You should set up a "phpBB for ASP users forum", it seems there are a lot of us... :P

in general,
I was wondering what are the locktypes that are used in the PHP code,
to connect to the DB,
so that maybe I could translate it to ASP...

Okay, problem solved.

I thought this was the DB was probably unreachable beyond the scope of the forum's PHP code, but I was wrong...

Just a stupid confusion between two different RecordSet objects, that one was writeable, and the other read-only...

Thanks anyhow!

I'm not trying to be rude but why? phpBB is written in PHP so having an ASP forum here makes no sense at all.

But this is phpBB not aspBB ...

There was a fork of phpBB being written in ASP. I don't know what happened to it.

To tell you the truth,
I'm sad that I wrote a whole site in ASP,
because as I slowly discover, PHP is a MUCH better language...

I was young, I didn't know much,
someone told me to start learning ASP, so I did it...

And now I have a full site in ASP with an extension of a phpBB forum...
Just think of all the workarounds I have to make, to make the forum fit nicely inside the site... :?

I just noticed there were others who posted questions regarding this subject...

ASP is no longer maintained by Microsoft Corp, all users are strongly advised to use ASP.net

I have a small amount of assemblies written which allow interoperability between phpBB sessions and ASP.net. You can find it here: http://www.phpbb.com/phpBB/viewtopic.php?t=264422

They are incomplete.

I was at one stage working on a fork of phpBB to asp and soon after asp.net, but that collapsed and I haven't worked on for a number of years.
