For mysql we allow 30 concurrent connections to the server at one time. This option cannot be changed on the server since this is a hard limit tha tis set by our admins.

Please let me know if you have any further questions.

What does that have to do with this? Although that is a pretty low limit, you are not getting a "Too many connections" error.

Ask them what it has to do with the error regarding joins.

Ditto what Steve said. They probably answered from a script - "MySQL problem? Here's the answer!"

give them a link to this topic so they can see what the error is and how to fix it.

( they should know about this stuff since they are a hosting company :cry: )

just an update:
In regards to this limit, I spoke with one of our higher technicians and was not aware of any such limit. I will ask one of our administrators about this and get back with you.

In the meantime, if you ever do get this 1104 error, I would recommend that you log into your control panel, click PHP Config, and enable PHPFastCGI. You will then want to view your website and refresh your browser to make sure that your website functions properly (it generally does though). If it does not then go back into PHP Config and set it back to what you had it on.

So, to fix a problem in MySQL, they want you to change the configuration in how the web server calls PHP? Did they suggest you change your car's oil, too?

I have read the post that you sent me and still have the same issue. The 10mb limit set on the Max Join Size is something that cannot be changed. It is something that is set by the admin and they won't change this limit on the server. It is only an issue since this is a shared server and the defaults are set and can't be changed. On a vps or mps style of server you are given access to change these type of settings.

Please let me know if you have any further questions.

I think that means I can't do anything. Which you could argue is not doing all it said when I signed up.

OK, well lets assume that I can't do anything, so I'm going to find a different way of doing it. If someone could move this to mod writers discussion please.
I thought I could just use pages that only display certain categories, but all the same board.
I think this is the code to edit, but I'm still only learning sql so please tell me what I would change it to to only display certain categories:
(index.php)

Code: Select all

//
// Start page proper
//
$sql = "SELECT c.cat_id, c.cat_title, c.cat_order
	FROM " . CATEGORIES_TABLE . " c
	ORDER BY c.cat_order";
if( !($result = $db->sql_query($sql)) )
{
	message_die(GENERAL_ERROR, 'Could not query categories list', '', __LINE__, __FILE__, $sql);
}

ok well i did what I wanted myself. The only problem is now, the navigation links at the top (forum index>forum name etc)link back to the orgininal index.php page, and not the index2.php page as it should on some of the forums. can anyone think of a way of getting around this?
