Also would be nice to be able to create replacement text with html and/or bbcode tags.

when you think about this mod, you must change (or forget) the syntax about (normal) board-group-rights. you have multiple options away from board-groupings. at example you can make multiple hidden-groups like media_flv, media_pic, media_flash and so on. just take the bbcodes as the base to plan groupings with this mod. so all the problems you see are gone. ;)

when .. then bbcodes. but after a short test, i think, it was not needfull. first point: i must recreate mod-syntax, but the important point is, that it may have a bunch of cross-effects e.g. collision with restricted-bbcodes itself.

I already have running forum, which I about to move on v.3. The forum already has multiple groups and a lot of "hidden" messages. So I'm assessing whether your mod could work the trick.

But even in your example: what if my user belongs to BOTH "media_pic" and "media_flash" groups; and media_pic is open ONLY for "media_pic" group;

Would the user see [media_pic] message?

what if my user belongs to BOTH "media_pic" and "media_flash" groups;
each bbcode restrictions works for itself

only those users, who are in the group media_pic will see the [media_pic] message. *easy
also if there are in 100 other groups

example:
- build a group "media_pic" > eg GROUP ID 14
- build a group "media_flash" > eg GROUP ID 15

examples:
a user is in both groups > he see both contents
a user is in only in one of those groups > he see only the content of the group, he is ading to
But even in your example: what if my user belongs to BOTH "media_pic" and "media_flash" groups; and media_pic is open ONLY for "media_pic" group;

Would the user see [media_pic] message?
if the user is in both groups, he can see both contents :?
if he's not in both groups, than not 8-)

because of that you must build tricky group concept before. but that is self-evident

It might be "self-evident", but the reason I'm asking is that it DOES NOT work this way for me!
Is not it a self-evident that I would try first? In my set up, until I open "hidden" tag for ALL groups certain user belongs to, he would not see a hidden message.

That's why I'm trying to find out: is it by design, or I'm missing something.

(please, let's be professional)

actually, it's not what I'm asking (see my quote): I'm asking about ONE content being open ONLY FOR ONE of multiple groups user belongs to.

OK, here's example:

User "sam" belongs to groups "gr1" and "gr2".

1. If tag "tag1" open ONLY to "gr2", my user "sam" doesn't see hidden content "tag1".
2. If I open "tag1" to both "gr1" AND "gr2", then user "sam" can see hidden content.

Is this a behavior by design?

In other words, if user belongs to any "forbidden" groups, he doesn't see hidden content.

And I would expect just the opposite: if user belongs to at least one "opened" group, he will see hidden content.

i hope i understand it right and say: Yes

My Module is a negation-rights-module, because i think it's more effective.

If you forbid a bbcode, it's general forbidden for all groups,
except those 3 groups you can enter in the fields of the mod.

and i think, if any point is unclear to you, just test the mod.
its easy to install and it makes no changes to the structure of posts.
also the display of posts after un-install is as before.

Thanks for clarification.

But it also means that this design is useless if user belongs for more then 3 groups!
And it's not like something very weird settings.

Consider:

some user belongs to: "registered", "25+" (group for "non-silent" folks), "200+" (group for "active" ones), "forum council", "moderators" ...

Can you pls elaborate why you think negative-rights is more effective?

Consider another example: you got citizenship of, say, Germany and Canada. Some facility in, say, Italy is opened for Canadians, but, because of your German's citizenship you're banned from this facility ... weird, isn't it?

PS
And of course, I am testing the mode ...

aaahh, now i checked it.
no, it's enough when the bbcode is allowed to one of those groups the user was in :D
but also (of course) a tricky grouping-concept is helpfull

because of asking many admins. the much more meaning is,
that more cases (or bbcodes) to restrict exists, as to allow them.

but anyway, check it out..

I'm looking at the following code from functions_hide_content.php

Code: Select all

if (($config['bbcb3_admin_always_2'] == 1)
and ($user->data['group_id'] == 5)){
$grp_admin = 5;} else{
$grp_admin = 0;}
and I got some questions.

1. Why you're assume that group for "administrators" gets "group_id" ==5??????
2. What value will have $user->data['group_id'] if user belongs to a number of groups?

thats the allow-admin-always-switch and no part of the main-group-code.
system group 5 is > administrators ;)
What value will have $user->data['group_id'] if user belongs to a number of groups?
also i will not discuss about all lines of my code *g - the main code is under these lines you show me.

take it or leave it :D
