Re: [ALPHA] PhpBB3 Knowledge Base

Post by adzyboy » Thu Jun 04, 2009 7:25 pm

ok, I've been trying to wrap my head around this for ages now.

Looking on your forum for this, in the header you have the links to every category and article as you visit them. I've been searching through the different files for the different lang variables to use to display these but can't find them anywhere.

Could you possibly explain what you've used to display the current category, parent category etc in the header?

Thank you :)

PS: Great mod, looks like a lot of work went into this!

Edit: I've figured out how to do display the current article title {ARTICLE_TITLE}.. but still need to figure out the current category, and the parent category when viewing an article.

Just realised there's two guys doing this lol..

Right, see the image below.
The bit where it says Test Category 1, is obviously the category. What is in the header there to make it display that?
I can get it to say everything on there, including the article name, I just can't figure out how to get the category name up there.

The place where it sets those headers is in a function called
function generate_kb_nav($page_title = '', $data = array()) - in includes/functions_kb.php
This is called from inside includes/kb.php multiple times with the data sent across, then it uses phpbb built in navigation system.

Hope that explains it for you!

The demo has been updated to the latest SVN version, which includes a lot of new cool features, such as social bookmarking, a working UCP and MCP module. A new alpha release might come within the next week or two.

Not exactly, I'd already discovered that function, I just didn't know how to use it.
I'll figure it out anyway, shouldn't be too difficult. Cheers anyway :)

Edit: Ah, I got it now. It uses phpBB3's navlinks bit that it uses for the viewtopic bit etc. I had all that section split up for when viewing the UserCP or ModCP etc.. so it only displayed the navlinks bit when on viewtopic, viewforum etc. I added the kb page to it and it's showing everything up now. Thanks again!

Just out of curiousity, was this some sort of bug related to the mod (with the nav not showing up) or because you wanted to copy the functionality of this?

Code: Select all

<!-- BEGIN navlinks --> <strong>&#8249;</strong> <a href="{navlinks.U_VIEW_FORUM}">{navlinks.FORUM_NAME}</a><!-- END navlinks -->
Neither, I thought the above was only used for viewtopic and viewforum, any other mods I've installed (such as the phpbb3 calendar) don't use that, I had to work out the different bits to put in the header myself.
Because of that, I used the IF SCRIPT_NAME == 'whatever' code to seperate the header between viewforum/topic and the other sections of the forum.

Therefore, when I installed this mod the header bits didn't work, so I thought something special was done to put them there. After reading that this mod used phpbb3's navigation system, I just added kb to the IF SCRIPT_NAME used by viewforum/topic, and it worked.

Sorry if that doesn't make sense ha. Brilliant job on this btw, been looking through it all and it looks like a lot of work went into it! Plus looking at the commented out code and the feature list, there is a plan for the future, which is unusual for most mods.
