As a suggestion, (which I made earlier in the Requests forum) I would say display thumbnails of files.

http://www.phpbb.com/community/viewtopi ... &t=1973965 like the office files.

I'm already using Hotschi's Download MOD (http://phpbb3.oxpus.net/downloads.php?v ... il&df_id=1) and works ok but tough to get support for it. Do you have any plans to provide a conversion tool to import/convert tables from other download mods to Download Centre?

I just have a few downloads already (over 200) and didn't want to have to re-upload them all. Or will there be an option to do a mass file upload and all files get logged and then you can move them around into different categories?

Thanks

This Download Centre MOD works slightly different than the Hotschi's one.
This MOD uses the phpBB inbuilt functions. How does it work? I'll try to explain it by pointing it's working step by step.

You make a download category in your ACP-module. One step of this proces is selecting a forum of your board (or multiple forums). The forum you have selected will be treated as a download forum. Meaning, all the attachments that are posted in that particular forum will be shown in the download category. It simply uses the forums, posts and attachments of your board. And in a later version the permissions also ;)

I thought by making a download centre MOD like this, is very easy to control and manage.

Today I've struggled with the preview images feature. I've come quite far to be honest. At least I think so :D
At this moment it works like this.

When you have uploaded an image like .png or .jpg, a little thumbnail of it is shown.
When you upload for example a .zip file, a pre-defined zip image is shown. Same works for .rar or .pdf files.
I guess the basic part of the necessary code is there.

For the hungry eyes a screenshot ;)
Hope you like it.

Thanks for the link, but I can only struggle with German.

What I'd like to have is a phpBB-wrapped way to specify a directory full of downloadable items that aren't necessarily posted as attachments, sort of like a library link.

I've hacked together a temporary solution by using some other mods here, but ...

:|

Any help would be wonderful!

I'm not sure if my Download Centre MOD will help you cause it is using the inbuilt attachment function of phpBB.

And ofcourse you can manage the preview feature in your ACP (activate or deactivate).

This evening I've completed a couple of steps for the download category page.
First I've dealed with the latest download version problem. At this moment it is shown twice; as latest download version and in the archive section. In the next release it has been removed from the archive section.

Also the order of downloads in the archive section are properly done: from the newest to the oldest one.

Besides the two fixes above I've completed the topic preview. This section shows a part of the post text of the topic in which the latest download version has been posted. The preview is nicely parsed, so you don't have to worry about bbcodes, links or images in posts.

Next step is making the subsilver2 template files. Maybe writing the code more nicely.
After that is done, version 0.0.5 will be released.

Two screenshot to show you all the new category page.

Can't wait how it looks like, take a peak at http://www.idlaunch.org, the latest download centre (with the new category page) is live.

This evening two big steps have been made in the development progress of this MOD.
First I've added the option to exclude file types from a download category (request by spaceace). It works quite simple, you only have to give the extensions you want to exclude from the category in the download category ACP module.

A screenshot:

The other step was writing a more nice and clean code by adding two functions.

The only thing I need to do for the version 0.0.5 release is adding the subsilver2 files. I will try to complete them this week also.

The subsilver2 template files are ready for the download centre MOD. I've added three screenshots of it in this post.

Besides that I've added some controls for situations like an empty category, empty archive and no global download permissions.

These actions complete version 0.0.5 of the MOD. I want to test the MOD one more time myself before I release it. I hope to do that this weekend.

The tab active display is part of the development activities for version 0.0.6. So it will be there in time ;)
