Re: [BETA] AJAX Registration Checks

Post by Xanta Media » Sun Mar 07, 2010 9:53 pm

As stated above this is the MOD that was abandoned by andy295 here.

I have tried contacting Andy but had no reply so if he comes back and wants to resume DEV of the MOD then he is more than welcome to.

All I have done to the MOD is repacked it and fixed the 2 errors that I could find in the other topic which are:
 • Fixed the error when # was used in the password
 • fixed it to be compatible with IE6
I have also upgraded the code to work with the latest version of phpBB

I was thinking about turning it into an AJAX toolkit type thing with the reg checks, inline quick edit of posts and turn the standard quick reply into AJAX aswell but there are already mods released for the second 2.

I think the code needs a little bit of a clean up but apart from that it seems to work fine.

Yes there is Ajax Quick Edit Mod for online editing posts! it works great and I am quite happy with it: editing without reloading page !!
But there no Ajax quick reply Mod !! I am not aware for anyone :roll:

Khm, be honest, move originals authors to authors group at install instructions.
Something like this...

Code: Select all

 <username>andy2295</username>
 <contributions-group>
 <contributions status="past" position="Developer"/>
 </contributions-group>

Don't try to be popular on works of others w/o their copyrights...
P.S.
This is one of requirements of MOD DB at 2005, but i think and now too...

P.P.S.
Why you don't use xml? it can be gziped...

What do you mean "be honest" if I was trying to be dis-honest then I wouldn't of put anything in the file at all, nor would I of put it in the first post here and even on my forum. Also, i'm not doing this to be popular :)

Could you expand on this, not sure what you mean.

I mean, that all authors must be listed under authors section of install-instructions, not under author notes...
Really, you don't do anything various or important with this mod, but changed copyrights...

Code: Select all

Could you expand on this, not sure what you mean.
You're trying to use self format like

Code: Select all

value1|value2|value3|....|valueN
but, for example, if i'll change language string like

Code: Select all

ERROR | Username already taken
your script will have some problems... And don't worry, on some specific boards it's used, i can't say name of it, little secret... But this is a fact... Also you're using exit('SOME TEXT');, but it's not correct with coding-guidelines of phpbb, also you don't close sql-connection because this routine placed somewhere else at phpbb(i don't tell you where, because i want your manually work :mrgreen:). By coding-guidelines you must use templates, so your reply must be moved to something like this: ./styles/prosilver/template/ajax_register.html and use phpbb's template system. Also, you don't sent http-headers, that's wrong by design... Next your error:

Code: Select all

	exit('Variable not set');
Not used language variable... And exit() again... Also, what the stupid idea to put function(check_password_strength()) between all routine? Also, you put script at html body, so it will not be cached... It'll be loaded on each page load...
P.S.
exit() function can be replaced with php's function register_shutdown_function() and your reply never will sent to browser..

Edit: Oh, i forgot about XML...
Examle of XML template for phpbb (from one of my mods which in development currently)...

Code: Select all

<bbajax>
	<mode>{BBAJAX_MODE}</mode>

	<field>

{fields.NAME}

 <value>{fields.VALUE}</value>
	</field>

</bbajax>
result which will be sent to browser

Code: Select all

<bbajax>
	<mode>specified_mode</mode>
	<field>

field 1

 <value>value 1</value>
	</field>
	.......
	<field>

field N

 <value>value N</value>
	</field>
</bbajax>
It looks bigger, but it can be gziped, so it'll be less then your thinks... Of course, if gzip is enabled... If not, it's not principal which reply is bigger...
Of course, before sent header that it's text/xml...
First of all, you can send really big data with this structure... But it don't needed...
P.S. again...
Read coding-guidelines... i told you all your mistakes...
