[ABD] Subject Prefix

Post by Erik Frèrejean » Wed May 19, 2010 8:16 pm

Support is only provided very limited in this topic and ONLY for development versions. You should only be running the development versions when you are comfortable to do so. Support for stable releases is ONLY provided through the CDB!

Modification Name: Subject Prefix
Author: Erik Frèrejean

Modification Description:: A MOD that allows users to easily give topics a subject prefix. This may be through a dropdown menu, radio boxes, a custom text input field, etc where a user can select the appropriate option and have it appended to the front of the topic title.
Modification Version:: N/A

Requirements: This MOD will require php 5.2.0 (requirements can be changed!), lower php 5 version might work but issues that are caused by lower php versions won't be officially supported

Features: Features will be added when development has taken off

Modification Repository: http://github.com/erikfrerejean/subject_prefix
Trackers: Please post any bugs/feature requests in the issue tracker @ github

Notice: Please note that due to the way the alpha and beta packages will be generated for this MOD, the "modx.prosilver.en.xsl" will be missing from the package. So after unzipping the archive you'll have to add this file manually in order to see the mod. In order to do so, download this file into the "contrib/" directory of the MOD.

This MOD is one of the 6 requested MODs by the MOD team for the Summer of MODs

Bookmarked! Also, this isn't a feature request, just a question :) - can the prefixes be different colors, or will they all be one color?

Can this set an autodate in certain forums?

Sorry for the mistakes I do from time to time in English. This is not my native language. I am trying to improve my English, so please notify me about any mistakes I make. Thanks! :)

At a point you'll indeed have the choice to define certain prefixes for certain forums. But that will be one of the last things on my list. Don't expect that feature in the first alpha package which I expect to release later today.

Wow you're fast!

Anyway, this is a good stand-alone prefix MOD from the looks of it, so good luck! :)

Re: [ALPHA] Subject Prefix

Post by Erik Frèrejean » Thu May 20, 2010 8:05 pm

I've released the first Alpha release of this MOD in the first topic. This version isn't feature frozen yet so if you can think of any additional features please post them ;).
As always this is alpha quality software, only use this MOD in a sand boxed testing environment!

I know this is the first alpha release, so I didn't expect much. :D
Someone forgot their modx.prosilver.en.xsl ;)
  • I dont see where in forum permissions I can allow or deny use of subject prefix to a particular group (I see the admin group permission for managing)
  • Ability to search by subject prefix
  • viewtopic_print should probably support subject prefixes
  • Ability for moderators to change subject prefix via quick-mod tools (a good use would be "solved" :P )
  • Ability to define what subject prefixes may be used in what forum (*edit* just saw that this is planned, so scratch that)
Nice job so far though. Works great!

Thanks for the feedback :)
t_backoff wrote:Someone forgot their modx.prosilver.en.xsl ;)
No not forgotten its due to the way I have the alpha/beta packages packed (they are generated from my github repository and I don't want the xsl there!). I'll add a notice to the first post about this.

There isn't a forum permission yet. This will be added before the next release.
t_backoff wrote:viewtopic_print should probably support subject prefixes
Yah, never thought about that one :P.

How do you envision this? A second dropdown with the prefixes? I'm not sure how to implement this and still allow it to be "quick" simply adding all prefixes to the quick mod box only clutters this.

When adding the new prefix, the admin can be asked if he wishes it to show in the Quick Mod Tools or seperate drop box, just like BBCode's Option to disaplay on main page?
