Looks cools, is there any way that the shoutbox can be shown at the top of the index page instead of the bottom?

I know what you mean, I'm looking for the same thing. As a matter of fact I was going to experiment putting this in an <iframe> on my main page, you know in my spare time (yeah right, what's that?).

guys!!! IFrame?????????????????????
please!!! you're making it much too difficult on yourself.

Just move the

Code: Select all

<!-- INCLUDE chat_body.html -->
to wherever you want it on the index page.

if you want it on any other page, it works the same way… just make sure you have

Code: Select all

include("{$phpbb_root_path}shout.$phpEx");
after the session info.

hi,

thans !

am trying to make little change in your mod to make a module.. so we can add the AJAX Chat from the ACP.
can you tell me please why there are two files (chat.php and chout.php) ?
the two are very smilars
I transformed the chout.php to a module (and it work at 50%) case it don't show the messages..
but when i put the chat.php in the root folder it work at 100% (local and not in the server..in the server not working yet..and this is why I need you!)
i think if i understand this line i can progress..

Code: Select all

xmlHttp.open("POST", '{FILENAME}', true);
thanks !

I was able to get it working, sort of...
The chat is there and the link works, but not the icon for the link.
The chat is not showing up at the bottom of the forum.
I am running phpbb3rc1 and I am positive I installed it as per instructions.
Thanks for any help...

It's here: http://www.badassbassplayers.com/forum

EDIT: it works in subsilver2, but not in prosilver. Might be the scalable font size?
Thanks.

for me the original work fine with prosilver ..
but i just want to understand more why are there two files..chat.php and chout.php

I made a module with the original code and it work also ..
but i want to optimaze the use of the module system this why i want to understand the source code..

in my opinion the module system is not yet well used in the mods presented here (I dont mean the chat one in particular ..but in general) i think that the mods must be (better) modules ...no ? am I wrong ?

Hi Noahvale,
if it doesn't work in prosilver, it because, either you haven't uploaded the templates and images to prosilver or you need to refresh your template through the ACP->Styles-Templates then click refresh on prosilver.
You can also go to ACP->Load Settings and select to recompile stale templates automatically… saves a ton of headache.

Hi Soulhouf,

Sorry, I don't have time to help put it into the modules system.
The modules system in it's current form is only for the UCP, MCP and ACP… and this chat doesn't go in any of those, so by default, I can't use the modules system.
It's fine for some people that know what they're doing, but for most, it causes more headache than it's worth.

@noahvale, RTFM?
@Dallas, sorry, I don't have time to support editing this outside of the standard install… my modding time is very limited and I have had people begging me to finish 2 of my mods… one of which is almost finished… and it's not listed in the development section here because it was not compatible with RC1 yet.

The messages are never deleted… though it only displays the last 25.

It would be nice to have a pruning feature to keep the database small. Maybe even different intervals for different user groups (eg premium users can see shouts made within last three days, standard members only see current shouts).
