It would be incredible if someone else made something like this, I would definitely enjoy it. It's unfortunate that people abandon things and don't make it possible for others to continue based on what they started. I wish he left it available to download at least or have an attachment :?

I am definitely going to be getting this MOD back out this week. I had to switch web hosts in a hurry.

Version Beta 2 Released!
  • 2008-6-4 - Version 0.5.0 (BETA)
    • Streamlined permission checks
    • No longer tracks anonymous users (cost for overhead was not worth it)
    • Added toggles to enable/disable tracker for each forum
    • Topic View Tracker link moved to quick-mod select on topic pages
    • All SQL updates now done via one executable file (topic_view_tracker_db_update.php)
If you have Beta 1 installed, you should undo all previous file edits before installing. The previous database changes do not need altering. However you need to add the new column to the forums table.

In a few weeks if I don't think up any new additions or new bugs come up I will go over everything, create proper MODX installer and declare [RC] status.

I have removed that link. The most up to date link will always be in the original post.

I think I've identified the issue. Try using this update file instead:
http://www.jcthebuilder.com/db_update.zip

The complete original Beta2 zip has been updated with this fix as well.

A typo. In the install.txt, I think

Code: Select all

adm/style/acp_forums.php
should be

Code: Select all

adm/style/acp_forums.html
And I receive the following:

topic_view_tracker not allowed as quickmod

?? what is the cause of this? I have already modified the permissions.

Thanks, I fixed it.

I forgot to add an edit in the mcp.php file.

I have updated to beta 3. The only thing that has changed is the mcp.php file edit. You don't need to reinstall the entire thing.

Version 0.5.2 Beta 4 Released

There was a permission naming conflict. I accidentally used the m_info permission which is already in use. Previous beta users will need to replace all instances of "m_info" with "m_tracker" in the included files and edits. Also the database entry will need to be added once again. The "View Post Details" in moderator permissions needs to be reset for all appropriate users and groups.

Hi bondgamer,

glad to see you back! :)

Does your MOD provide a list with all times a user viewed a topic? E.g.:
_____User______________________Topic____________________________IP____________________Date

IPB_Refugee_______[Beta] JC Topic View Tracker 0.5.2__________213.173.88.11_________12.10.2007, 21:45
IPB_Refugee_______[Beta] JC Topic View Tracker 0.5.2__________213.173.88.11_________14.10.2007, 12:03
IPB_Refugee_______[Beta] JC Topic View Tracker 0.5.2__________213.173.89.14_________05.10.2008, 23:10
Regards

No, it only records that they viewed the topic. On each subsequent visit it updates the IP address, last topic visit and view count. Changing it to track like that would create an enormous amount of database records even on a small forum. It would be very easy to change the MOD to work like that if you wish, although I would not recommend it. In viewtopic.php change:

Code: Select all

// Begin JC Topic View Tracker MOD
if ($topic_data['forum_topic_tracker'] && $user->data['is_registered'])
{
	$sql = 'UPDATE ' . TOPIC_TRACKER_TABLE . "
			SET topic_id = $topic_id, view_time = " . time() . ", last_ip = '".$user->ip."', view_count = view_count + 1
			WHERE topic_id = $topic_id
				AND user_id = " . $user->data['user_id'] . "";
	if ( !$db->sql_query($sql) || !$db->sql_affectedrows() )
	{
		// This is the first time user viewing topic, insert new record
		$sql = 'INSERT IGNORE INTO ' . TOPIC_TRACKER_TABLE . ' (topic_id, user_id, view_time, last_ip, view_count)
				VALUES (' . $topic_id . ', ' . $user->data['user_id'] . ', ' . time() . ", '" . $user->ip . "', 1)";
		$db->sql_query($sql);
	}
}
// End JC Topic View Tracker MOD
To

Code: Select all

// Begin JC Topic View Tracker MOD
if ($topic_data['forum_topic_tracker'] && $user->data['is_registered'])
{
	$sql = 'INSERT IGNORE INTO ' . TOPIC_TRACKER_TABLE . ' (topic_id, user_id, view_time, last_ip, view_count) VALUES (' . $topic_id . ', ' . $user->data['user_id'] . ', ' . time() . ", '" . $user->ip . "', 1)";
	$db->sql_query($sql);
}
// End JC Topic View Tracker MOD
