The above example image is pretty bad. The descriptions are redundant and useless. I'd like to see a more intelligent description, or a customizable one.

Well you will setup the packages so you decide the descriptions. That link was not even to the phpBB MOD ;)

This is so great.

But, i also have some suggestions...
  • Integration with Handyman's cash mod!
  • Automatically update exhange rates with information from a site like XE.
  • An option to make for-life subsciptions.
Otherwise, great mod!
I hope it´s coming along well ;)

So there is some of the rough pages. Making good progress on it ... hope to over the next few days get all the bits bar the payment side done. So thats the stuff like forced/optional selection on registration if setup. Notification on expiration of subscrition etc..

EDIT: Wish this forum had attachments allowed.. upload to the web, resizing etc.. would be so much easier if we have attachments.

I have been looking all over the place for this. I didn't want to start with phpBB 2 cause I thought there would be some upgrading problems with a subscription feature moving to v3. Do you think it best to start building with v3? (my first forum)
I need to to implement:
1. No subscription required to view posts
2, Subscription required to post. When a person goes to post I want the subscription page to open.
They will be notified to sign up to post, with a PayPal account (or sign up for a PayPal Account) to process a $4.95 (every 30 days) charge to their credit card. The charge will take place automatically every 30 days until the subscriber hits the cancel button in their Profile. Additionally, The subsriber has the first 30 days free (posting permitted) and can cancel before the 30 days lapse and no charge to their card..

Is this mod something like this, if yes - WHOA! Count me in!

Hopefully this mod will include an option to import subscription from the phpbb2 group subscription mod.
If it does then you could setup phpbb2 with the exisiting group subscription mod installed and then just upgrade.
No subscription required to view post is simply a permissions setting ie permission to post would need to be set to Private and appropriate group subscriptions set and set view posts to Anyone.
The present mod would allow you to set the conditions in Q2 so I'd suspect this mod will allow the same.
Warning though Paypal charge per transaction so setting a monthy fee could work out quite expensive.

Hi Gareth:
What alternative to PayPal could you suggest? Setting up and individual MC/Visa Account still involves a % per transaction.

Hi Reed

I've only ever used Paypal so cannot recommend an alternative. Sorry.
My warning relates to Paypals transaction charge. If my memory serves its .20p(£) plus 3%.
I suppose a lot depends on the service offered but I'd setup a short free period 7 to 14 days (works for me) and then charge a 6/12 month subscription. I charge £15 p/a which pays for a a high spec hosting package and the remainder is donated to charity.

Gareth

Ps If I didn't use Paypal I think I'd probably be looking for a Worldpay subscription mod.

Thanks Gareth!
Currently PayPal in the US is 2.9% + .30 cents for each transaction.
I think I'll use a 30 day free trial with an option to cancel at no charge, but after 30 days it's 4.95 a month.
PayPal will get about .45 cents US for each transaction at that price.
I hope the new Subscription MOD for phpBB v3 will cover this type of activity.
Thanks
Gary
