Re: [BETA] Welcome Mod

Post by Stitch625 »

Tomofv wrote:Excellent mod. :) Does it have options to have entirely seperate greetings for guests/members? Also, is there the option to remove the personalised greeting based on time of day? That would be great.

Cheers
Thanks :D

Currently there is a message for guests that reads "Hello Guest and TIME_OF_DAY_MESSAGE "Welcome to YOUR_SITE_NAME

And the message for guests will read "Welcome Back {usernmame} (in color) yada,yada,yada.
As for the moment the way the mod is written, if you wanted to change the time of day message, you would have to edit the language variables. which is very simple to do.

Open: language/en/common.php
FIND CODE:

Code: Select all

//Welcome Mod
//TIME OF DAY MESSAGE
'TIME_EARLY' => 'You Certainly Are up Early!',
'TIME_MORNING' => 'and Good Morning!',
'TIME_AFTERNOON' => 'and Good Afternoon!',
'TIME_EVENING' => 'and Good Evening!',
'TIME_MIDNIGHT' => 'Your up late Tonight!',
 // TIME OF DAY MESSAGE
//Welcome Mod
This is where you can chage your messages. Maybe in the future I will make an option to change your messages through the ACP.

As for the guest message and the reg member:
Open: language/en/common.php
FIND CODE:

Code: Select all

//Welcome Mod
//WELCOME MESSAGE
'WELCOME_HELLO' => 'Hello',
'WELCOME_WELBACK' => 'Welcome Back!',
'WELCOME_GUEST' => 'Guest',
'WELCOME_MESSAGE' => 'Welcome to YOUR_SITE_NAME!',
 //Welcome Mod
To see how these are being used open:
overall_header.html for subsilver
or index.php for prosilver

New Version 0.1.3 just released today! See first post for download

New version fixes welcome message displaying bug in subsilver2. There was a problem with viewing in Firefox. Now welcome message will display properly in both IE and Firefox.

Also removed extra surplus code that is not needed in language file.

Make sure you test it for Opera, Netscape AND Mozilla as well. Unless you aren't going the full mile in terms of cross-browser compatibility. Not that I have tested it in these browsers though.

Isn't netscape just about dead? I mean who still uses it? I will test it in opera and see how it views. First I need to download it.

Browser Stats

As you can see, less than 0.2% use Netscape now in 2007.

Just open up the main XML file and follow the instructions. Then for what ever style you are using (subsilver2 or Prosilver) open the respective file and follow the instructions. Then don't forget to refresh your templates once the mod has been installed.

Then you need to change your first post. Currently, it says the modification format is Text File. If you just open the XML File without extracting anything else, it'll be just a jumble of code.

I don't see the problem, this is the normal Modx format. If you open the xml file, your browser wil open and you get the install instructions.

You need to open this file.
Welcome_Mod.xml. There is nothing wrong with the install file. This is noraml Mod-X format. Sounds like you are trying to open the the modx.prosilver.en.xsl file instead. This is just an out put of the code. The actuall file you need to open in your browser is Welcome_Mod.xml.

Good Luck

No, you need to have them BOTH though. The XML File won't be displayed properly if you don't have the XSL as well.

Correct...and they are both there.

In order to have a message displayed according to gender you would need a whole seperate mod and intergrate the two. Unfortunately this is beyond my knowledge.

as for the randomly picked messages, can you please elaborate? I am not sure I understand what you are asking.
