[ABD] FCKeditor MOD (WYSIWYG HTML editor)

Post by wiktor » Fri Nov 09, 2007 2:44 pm

MOD Title: FCKeditor
MOD Description: This mod allows you to use FCKeditor (visual HTML editor, sometimes called WYSIWYG) to create posts. Messages are saved as BBCodes.
MOD Version: 0.1.0 Alpha

MOD Info: http://phpbb.fckeditor.net/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=1
MODx Download: http://phpbb.fckeditor.net/FCKeditor_mod_0_1.tar.gz (64KB)
Full package: http://phpbb.fckeditor.net/phpBB-3.0.RC ... 0.1.tar.gz (2.6MB)
(Full package contains phpB3 RC7 + FCKeditor MOD + FCKeditor 2.5)
Last Stable version: No stable Version at the moment.

MOD Demo: http://phpbb.fckeditor.net/
Demo Username: phpbb.com
Demo Password: phpbb3
(or better way: register, this way you can receive e-mail notification when someone answers your question)

This is the first attempt to integrate FCKeditor into phpBB3. Please do not use this in live environment. To reduce the amount of time required to install this MOD, we have prepared a ready to install package.
Install it just like a normal phpBB3 package.

Remember: although powerful, this is still just a development version, it contains bugs.

Project future:

FCKeditor team have "started" coding this integration. We need help now to continue with it, as we are (and have to be) mainly focused on FCKeditor.
We are looking for help on coding/improving it, so PHP and JavaScript developers are welcome.

Any help is appreciated!

Nice work. You could improve the design a bit though. I think you should go for a more modern design than a retro one. Thats my personal opinion.

But on the functionality:
Great job on that Find/replace function!

Neat stuff.

It's still a little buggy. (I know... it's alpha).

Does the html aspect of the posts cause any security problems?

I'm gladt that you enjoy it :D

FCKeditor comes with three default skins, for now you can choose one of them by adding this line to fckeditor_config.js:

Code: Select all

FCKConfig.SkinPath = FCKConfig.BasePath + 'skins/default/' ;
(replace "default" with "office2003" or "silver")

Posts could be saved as HTML, but only if phpBB had a built-in mechanism to strip all unsecure HTML code (like for example Drupal does). Otherwise it would be too much work for us to provide secure solution (take a looke here: http://ha.ckers.org/xss.html to see what I mean).
So BBCodes are fine, a white-list approach is always more secure. The second advantage of using BBCodes is that there would be no compatibility problems with installing this MOD on already working forum.

@quocanh83 - could you send me a PM with a link where I could see what do you want to achieve? Are you talking about a special button that would remove text in square brackets like [bbcode1], [bbcode2] etc. from your text?

@foxy111
- what do you mean it doesn't work? Are you talking about missing two buttons (paste and paste from word)? If so, you can add back those buttons to the toolbar in fckeditor_config.js. Or perhaps you should select some text to activate those buttons... I just can't get it where it doesn't work.

@necer_cheniki - it should be doable even at this stage. All you have to do is to define a bbcode that would be replaced with animation (for example). I have added two samples to the demo site - Digg bbcode, that shows that it is possible to define a bbcode that would be replaced with some javascript. The second example is a simple animation - it is not very powerful, but after changing phpBB3\fckeditor\editor\plugins\phpbb3\fck_bbcode.html it could be possible for example to select an image from a list of available animations.
I have used BBCode defined here: http://www.phpbb.com/community/viewtopi ... 0&t=578946
The animation is a simple BBCode that changes [animation][/animation] into <img> tag.
Both BBCodes were added with:
  • Display on posting page - checked
  • Allow rich editor to transform bbcode on the fly - unchecked

and paste it into the editor i got it without colors and without the smilies

foxy111,

Sorry for taking so long to reply.
Yeah, I got it. I have to switch to another project for a while, but I'll get back to FCKeditor MOD as soon as possible and solve all found issues.

For anyone interested in using phpBB plugin: this is still alfa release, so it contains known bugs. All php/java script developers are welcome to join this project.

lukak:
login to the ACP (Administration Control Panel), go to the Posting -> Messages -> BBcode.
Create a new BBcode in ACP:

BBCode usage:

Code: Select all

[youtobe]{IDENTIFIER}[/youtobe]
HTML replacement:

Code: Select all

<object height="355" width="425"><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/{IDENTIFIER}&rel=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" height="355" width="425"></object>
Settings:

  • Display on posting page: checked
  • Allow rich editor to transform bbcode on the fly: unchecked
And that's it! You can test it at http://phpbb.fckeditor.net.
