The easiest and most painless MOD I have ever done. Thank you . . . now if only the rest of my MODS were this easy :cry:

Hi Blaze..

I have two problems with the mod, that you might be able to help me out with..

1) The posts are numbered, but the number of a particular post depends on whether you are looking at posts in ascending or descending order..

i.e. on a single page of posts, in descending date order, the third post down would be No 3..

But if I then reverse the display order to show ascending date order, the post would then be something like post number 17..

So if I point a post out to someone, the number will only be valid if viewed in the same sort order as I was looking..

I'm afraid it doesn't take account of the sort order..

2) If I click the number to link me to the post I get a pop-up message box saying..

Explorer User Prompt

Script Prompt:

Copying of the direct link of this message, for preservation in the buffer of an exchange

http://www.mysite.co.uk/forum/viewtopic ... 828#P24828

Any thoughts on these two issues..

Doh!!!

Have you finished laughing yet... ROFL..

Of course it pop's up the box.. that's the idea.. so that you can copy the link.. He he he..

I've changed the wording in the box, to say Right-Click and copy this link..

Also, it sdefinitely finds it's way to the post, but numbers definitely ignore, the sorting of posts by date order..

So the first post can be number one, but if you reverse the order, the last post becomes number one.

Thx..

Ohter than that, it works just fine..

Try open: viewtopic.php

Find:

Code: Select all

// Output the posts
$first_unread = $post_unread = false;
for ($i = 0, $end = sizeof($post_list); $i < $end; ++$i)
{
Add after:

Code: Select all

	$post_number = $i - $start;
	$post_number = $post_number + 1;
	$post_id = $postrow[$i]['post_id'];

Nice MOD you got there. Will install it once it is in the DB ;)

Sorry Blaze..

I tried the mod you suggested, but all that did was renumber the posts the other way round..

If I look at the posts in Ascending Date order and someone else looks at them in Descending Date order, we both see a different post number..

i.e. There are 5 posts.

I am viewing them in descending order so the last post in the thread to me is Number 1, but to someone viewing the posts in Ascending order, the earliest post is Number 1.

To work correctly, somehow the system would need to look at say the Post ID in the database, sort the posts in that thread by PostID number order and allocate a Number to them based upon that..

That way, it wouldn't matter in which order they were viewed as the post number displayed would be tagged against the ID..

Mind you.. there's a lot of coding to be done to achieve that..

At present it works quite well as long as you only link to a post and not refer to it by number..

Thx for your efforts..

I think click on post number, and open reply window for reply, but after send message I need see a direct link for post number and name above message.

Update: Very good mod, I use it, but this mod not working correctly with "First post on every page" MOD: first post give back bad number... :roll:

@derektim:

Try this:

OPEN: viewtopic.php

FIND:

Code: Select all

	// End signature parsing, only if needed
BEFORE, ADD:

Code: Select all

	// Post Numbers MOD
	if ($sort_dir == 'd')
		$post_number = ($total_posts - $start - $i);
	else
		$post_number = ($i + $start + 1);
FIND:

Code: Select all

		'POST_SUBJECT'		=> $row['post_subject'],
		'MESSAGE'			=> $message,
AFTER, ADD:

Code: Select all

		// Post Numbers MOD
		'POST_NUMBER'		=> $post_number,
In viewtopic_body.html (style subSilver2) you just need something like this (without Javascript):

Code: Select all

<!-- IF S_IS_BOT -->#&nbsp;{postrow.POST_NUMBER}<!-- ELSE --><a href="{postrow.U_MINI_POST}">#&nbsp;{postrow.POST_NUMBER}</a><!-- ENDIF -->
Regards
Wolfgang
