Re: [RC1]simple rss mod for phpbb3

Post by Korou »

I installed last night and it's working great. However, I have two problems:

First: the RSS feed shows two dates; my board's default time zone as GMT (PDT) and then modifies that date seven hours (GMT - PDT) for the posting time.

Second: the feed displays only the most recent post in a topic. Most topics get multiple replies and none but the most recent reply shows up in the feed.

Can you help me with these? My RSS feed.

Thanks for your MOD, but please, tell me, WHAT and WHERE I must modify if I want generating RSS only for one forum with ID "viewforum.php?f=13" ? Thank you!

...I cannot locate it...

Hi Martinez,

I have no idea how you might modify te MOD to do that, but you could set the forum permissions such that only the forum that you want to be included in the RSS is public to everyone. AFAIK only completely public forums are included in the RSS.

Best,

Mark

Thanks for this mod. I have some minor suggestions that would improve this mod since I have been creating RSS feeds for my sites for years and have made some changes to this mod. In rss.php, I changed:

Code: Select all

header('Content-type: application/rss+xml; charset=UTF-8');
to:

Code: Select all

header('Content-Type: text/xml');
So that it opens up in the Internet Explorer browser instead of downloading. As you know it works normally in FireFox either way. You also may want to add on emore step to the install file. I added the following code to head in my overall_header.tpl file so that the RSS icon appears in the FireFox Address field:

Code: Select all

<link rel="alternate" type="application/rss+xml" title="RSS Feed" href="/rss.php" />
That way when viewing my new forum in FireFox that RSS icon appears:

http://www.healthboardadvice.com/forums/

You may also want to use mod_rewrite to change the php extenstion to .xml for sites that do not accept anything other than RSS feed extensions. Thanks! :)

Hi everyone

This plugin works quite fine for me, but...

I often post

Code: Select all

 sections with tabs in it. The plugin than fails to output propper rss files (couldn't work out what is going wrong at the moment)

I run a german forum. <pubDate> seems to have an error, because day- and month-names are localized. Same problem with parameter "r" for $user->format_date.

Regards, Heiner

OK, I carefully made all of the mods as per the 1.0.5 install.xml file, checked it twice and uploaded the files. I see absolutely no difference. No RSS symbol anywhere. I'm running PHPBB 3.0.3. What should I be seeing?

Yes, I "forgot" to purge the cache, but I don't think that you included that in the instructions. May I suggest that you include that?!?

P.S. It's working great.

I use subsilver2 for a skin and to implement this I had to do the following 2 steps:

1) Open styles/subsilver2/template/overall_header.html

Find:

Code: Select all

			<td class="genmed" align="{S_CONTENT_FLOW_END}">
Add these lines on a blank line following the preceeding line(s):

Code: Select all

<a href="{U_RSS}" title="{L_RSS_EXPLAIN}"><img src="{T_THEME_PATH}/images/icon_rss.gif"/>&nbsp; &nbsp;</a>
2) Copy: root/styles/prosilver/theme/images/icon_rss.gif
To: root/styles/subsilver2/theme/images/icon_rss.gif

Hi,

I saw there is a site for widget,

http://www.widgetbox.com/

For phpbb3, i have installed the simple_rss_1.0.5 and in my site, i am able to see the rss icon here , when i click on it, it redirects me to the google page ... +_+"
Just wondering whether do i really need this rss / feed for a forum?

IF for the reason, i need to add my site to the widget, i will for sure need one , and once i added it in, it says there is no post available here.
My thread, requires member to log in and does this means, the rss wont be working in my situation here ?
My link for the rss will be :

http://www.smashpic.com/rss.php

i got one of my frends to check on the link and she got a different view from the page, still no such post available here ..
please advice
Thanks
