Re: [RC] No more spambots

Post by Martin Truckenbrodt »

Hello,
IMO you should add a nonsense tz one the begin of the dropdown menue and another nonsense time zone to the end of the dropdown menue only for the ucp_register.php.

E.g.:
-19 Pluto time
+19 Mercure time.

Good users should wonder a little bit, but normally they don't find cause the board default tz is somewhere between.

I will add this feature in a different way to my new More DNS Blacklists MOD and my ADAP.

I think this really should kill them all! I don't to add registration question!

I am new to phpBB. I am using 3.0. I am very light on PHP.

I have been trying to add this mod. I continue to get various errors. I know it is very simple, but I can't get it to work.

I have read through all the posts and can't find an answer.

If anybody can help, please do.

is this information is really right ? and by this way no one can register by this time zone even if he was not a spam bot ?

This is great! Thanks for the MOD. :D

I have a question, though: I'd like the spammers to believe they succesfully registered the site. So, how about instead of showing a blank page it shows them a fake "succesfull registration" page?

I have added this, and I have tried registering and selected UTC 12 as the timezone and I have been able to register completely with no problems.

What am I doing wrong??

The Idea of this is good, but I would guess this will only work some time before some see how to bypass this mod.

If I was one of the guy who did send spam, the first thing I would do after reading this thread, was to change the code of the spambots to use UTC +1 instead of UTC -12.

Is there a way to sort user by Time Zone?
This way I can delete all the user with UTC -12 that was on my forum before I did add this patch.

Hello Jotne,
the point is that not humans are registering manually. Scripts are registering with UTC-12 automatically.

You can try this MOD: http://www.phpbb.com/community/viewtopi ... &t=1558075

Yeah, Nice addons you've made. By the way, the planet is Mercury (not Mercure). ;)
