Re: [DEV] lastRSS autoposting bot MOD (0.1.0)

Post by darkwinglh »

I really love this MOD, I tried it with 20 different feeds and they really cranked out the posts. (I wouldn't recommend that though on a live system, as my processor was maxed out on it) They were posting to different forums, which made it easy to seperate them and also branded each post on where it came from.

The only problem I have seen is that the index.php page errors out quite frequently due to the mod, someone already posted what it shows. Other than that, this mod can only get better.

Many thanks to the Mod Author.

I have my modem finally back! :)

So ... some answers ...
Nick-Harper wrote:Is there a way to manually make them check the feed and update?
... well ... no (but everything is possible) ... It absolutely depends on values in database ... If feed has next_check value < time() - feed is downloaded ...
darkwinglh wrote:One question, how do you change the poster?
In config table - lastrss_ap_bot_id (user_id) ;)
borninblood wrote:Can I just confirm should next_check always be set to zero in the beginning?
Yes ... But it can be anything less than actual time in Unix format ...
saaiberke wrote:Any idea how to fix this?
Weird ... But I think it´s in not purged cache (I forgot to wrote it to install file ...) ...
Nick-Harper wrote:The only thing is that it is going backwards through the RSS, it started from newest post and is now going back through time so I have the new news at the bottom and the old news at the top!
Thanks for your reports, in next version (0.1.1 soon) I´ve already prepared posting backward order and I already have prepared part which sends the post with original time declared in feed ( pubDate ) ... This will fix this bug ...
borninblood wrote:I have two RSS feeds added into the database, with everything enabled, and the whole thing is enabled in the config table, but the two feeds aren't showing. I gave it an hour just to make sure it didn't have to automatically update anything but there is still nothing.

My hosts allow both curl and fopen.

Any help would be great appreciated.
I think the problem should be in not purged cache ... Sorry, I missed that fact in install file ...
Ghost Rider wrote:... And the okay from the author to use it on a live forum!
Well, I´m trying to be perfect, but it´s hard ...
darkwinglh wrote:(I wouldn't recommend that though on a live system, as my processor was maxed out on it)
At this time no  ... It´s not prepared for live board yet :| ... I think best settings should be in checking feed with big limit for items (10-20) and long difference between checks (at least 6 hours) ... I think your hosting will hate you if you´ll check all feeds every hour (especially if you´ll try to post 20 feeds  ) ...
I think the best way how to use my mod is, how it Nick-Harper uses - to post news from one (or not a big number of) feed(s) ...
darkwinglh wrote:They were posting to different forums, which made it easy to seperate them and also branded each post on where it came from.
Good idea ;) ... That´s why every feed has in table own forum_id ;) - Right way how to use it ...
darkwinglh wrote:The only problem I have seen is that the index.php page errors out quite frequently due to the mod, someone already posted what it shows. Other than that, this mod can only get better.
I haven´t seen any - you mean 404 or something like that? It should happend, but remember - the mod is not optimised yet for running on live board for those reasons (too) ...

Anyway, I hope you´ll like this mod (or even my other mod) :) ... I have my modem finally back and I can check my code more and test it more deeply ;) ...
I´ll probably make a 0.1.1 release this week (still without ACP, but fixing the "core" and making something in differently) ...

I don't think it is because I even manually cleared the cache. Every hour I get this error and nothing gets posted in the forum.

And ... is user with user_id 2 existing ? ... what number (user_id) do you have in config? (lastrss_ap_bot_id)
- change it to your user_id ... (purge cache again)

I got it working now, I changed the topic_first_poster_name field from BLOB to varchar(255) and now it works. I compared with another DB where the lastRSSpost were working and there I saw that the field was not BLOB but varchar.

So now it works without problems :)

It gives a SQL error, I will reenable the feeds on my test board and see if it does it again. I think a lot of it had to do with the format of the feeds I was using.

Thanx! It's a good modification.

But is that bossible to convert html code to bbcode tags before it is posting new topic?
Example, image html code to [img]

And the second option: Post different rss feeds from different bot/user?
Example, From news rss feed is posting user id 1 and from comments feed is posting user id 2

Hello,
I´ll try to do something with images, but I am not promising anything ... HTML is not standard RSS output and in it makes feed unaccessible by many RSS readers (and also phpBB hasn´t tags for HTML and HTML is not allowed in phpBB) ...

My dev version is already parsing image for channel tag and it looks this way, but I´m not sure about the rest of HTML tags ...

To your second idea with multiple bots, I´ll see how much it will be requested, but from my point of view, it´s more simple to set permissions for one bot, than for x (where x > 1) ...

The feed what i use it looks inside like this. This is the one of the many items in feed.

Code: Select all

Hip Hop TV: New channel (EuroBird 3)

Hip Hop TV: New channel (EuroBird 3 33.0E, 2008-03-17 23:57)

After autoposting, the post on forum looks like this

Code: Select all

Hip Hop TV: New channel (EuroBird 3 33.0E, 2008-03-17 23:57)

Grtz,

Nic
I thought my problem was solved but it isn't...

No matter what bot userID I enter, after some time it is always the userid that will post the RSS feed and not the new user (id 159) I created. I checked the forum permissions on the userid 159 (the postbot) and everything looks ok, so I don't know why it is always changed to userid 2 when posting.

Help :)

Edit: I just tried to login as the postbot and I saw that the maximum attempts to login were exceeded, maybe that is the problem? The postbot cannot login and automatically the first admin user (userid 2) is being used instead?

I myself would love the idea of being able to have multiple bots. On a forum I belong to that's running vb, They have 4 bots that post in 4 different forum on the board. One posts all the technology/computer related news, One posts world news stuff, another posts all the sports news and so on in there appropriate forum on the site and I would love to have something like that myself. ;)
