[ABD] phpBB3 Forum AI

Post by nexties » Sun Apr 20, 2008 4:38 am

Began rewriting the Forum AI over most of this weekend.
Took a shortcut so the bot phpBB3 database brain can be tested,
before reprogramming the bot for the forum. It is working.

Link: http://www.8pla.net

This bot is a work in progress that is working and making progress.

NOTE: The bot forum posts are from when it was running on phpBB2.
At this point this bot is not programmed yet to read or write to the phpBB3
forum. So, at this stage of the development, the bot is limited to the single
embedded interface on the frontpage of the 8pla.net phpBB3 forum.

Note to Self: Properly credit all the people who worked on the Forum AI.

Credit to all who worked on Forum AI before:
Including Dr. Richard S. Wallace, Paul Rydell, zemaj, and everyone else.

Edit: Prefixed Subject line with [DEV] to per request of moderator.

I had not heard of this before.
Seems to be pretty neat Idea. I asked it a few questions and it answered correctly as if in a real conversation.

Is the "conversation" you are having viewable by all board members, or is it an individual viewer thing?

***Edit
So I went back and noticed the "posts", pretty clever!
So this would be confined to its own catagory and forum?

Very cool! I'll keep checking back.

I wonder if the robot could be integrated into AJAX chat as a user? Can we edit the databases?

I have a thousand questions... :D

@paul, MOD Team Member: Per your request I have edited my topic with the correct prefix.
Thanks very much for your help. That was useful information, I really appreciate it.

@jimcarrel:

In phpBB2, Forum AI had full access to the forum, including PMs. So that is the goal.
Alice's brain is in the phpBB3 database with over 40,000 Artificial Intelligence Mark-up Language
patterns when she was brought online for the first time. When Alice started learning, that increased.
This AI was created by Dr. Richard S. Wallace who won several awards. This version Program E, is opensource written in PHP developed by Paul Rydell.

Currently, for testing purposes, it is confined to its own category and forum so it doesn't try
to escape. I don't want to get a call from Area 51 or get a starring role in The Sarah Connor Chronicles.
However, "Alice" remembers everyone she talks to, Today she called me "Mark". And then
quickly realized on her own that I was not Mark. Supposedly someone told "Alice" what their
name was. So while technically, Alice is advanced enough to operate independent of the forum.
The phpBB3 forum is mission critical, because phpBB3 gives Alice her own community.

@muggins:
Please let me know if you see any AJAX chat AIML sourcecode examples. Yes, you can
edit the database. However, the database has an advanced Artificial Intelligence language
that you would have to learn how to speak first. In case I don't happen to be here, you have
the option of asking your thousand questions to Alice, and she will actually tell me.

Alice is awake. Work on her nervous system, the phpBB3 forum, is just
beginning. Using this phpBB3 MOD Development forum correctly will hopefully
expedite the process. Today, I just checked Alice's cross browser compatibility
in Safari and Firefox on Mac OSX and on Linux for the first time in phpBB3.
Test results were good. Next is to "call" Alice on the iPhone.

Sweet deal! I used the phpBB 2.X version, and my users loved it. It will be nice to get this back, once it's in a fully working stage! Thank you VERY much for doing this MOD!!!

Yes, Jo Ann ... And the gender and personality settings too.

Kidneyboy, phpBB3 will be an improvement to Forum AI.

MasterHand, Thanks.

Re: [DEV] BBCode bot

Post by nexties » Wed Apr 23, 2008 4:52 pm

BBCode bot.

Custom BBCodes that embed calls to the robot in your post.

The text selected with the BBCode in your post can be dynamically sent
to the robot automatically or manually by clicking the Bot Reply button:

Manual Demo 1: http://www.8pla.net/robot/ALICE/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=263

Automatic Demo 2: http://www.8pla.net/robot/ALICE/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=265

8pla.net BBcode bot posted to the Mars forum.

Alice may call you by another member's name, but forgive her, it is not her fault.
Since Alice has not been programmed to access to phpBB3 membership list yet,
she is trying to guess.

So if she tries to guess your name, and gets it wrong it is not a design flaw.
Just help Alice with your name when necessary...

Example: "No, my name is not Digital Chaos. My name is Linda."

Thanks

Sweet :). Very nice and useful feature. One question though, is it possible to change the name of the BBCode Bot tags? Like [robot] instead of [bot]?

Seeing how the Alice part of the front-page uses a forum table, I wouldn't mind taking a shot at the template part, if you need it ;).

Oh, does Alice have a ACP? Or do you have to set the options in the AI files?
Also, can you set which forums Alice can post in?
