Add "delete all" option in MCP when delete topics in a forum

Post by alhitary »

To delete all topics in a forum, I have to go to MCP and click on mark all option to mark all topics in one page and delete them, then mark all topics again in 2nd page and delete..etc
The option "delete all" is not exist, so it delete all topics in a forum by one click only

It's such a rare occurrence to do this and there are other ways to do it (delete the forum and remake it) that it doesn't seem like a high urgency one to me.

Why you want to make it long process while it can be short ?
You want it hard while it can be very simple.
It's not a rare occurrence as you said.
I have a forum for "Feed post bot" extension which group many topics from some websites, and you want me to remake a new forum every time I want to delete the unwanted topics ?

You can make it very simple with one click only ( "delete all" option ) instead of the long process you suggest ( remake it ).

It's not a long or hard process.
It is a rare occurrence for people to want to delete every topic in a forum. You have a very specific custom reason for such a feature so an extension makes more sense.

it takes about 4 clicks of the mouse and you type the same name for the forum again and click submit and you are done.

and yes it is a rare use case. I have never heard of anyone else requesting something like this before.

that does not mean that you should not request an extension . however, it could take a lot of coding to make an extension for this. I don't know, but it might be a big job.
so, while you are waiting to see if anyone wants to make this extension you can do it very quickly with the delete and recreate forum idea.

Makes more sense is not asking for an extension by the way,
makes more sense is to find this feature in "TOPIC MCP" by default because the option "delete all" exist in most process ( MCP & ACP ) and find it every where except in "TOPIC MCP".

Anyway, no need for debating, it is just an idea

Thanks

Not for debating, as I said it just an idea
just to clarify that it is not 4 clicks, it takes about 10 clicks of the mouse ( ACP + Passward again + forums + sections + forum to delete... )
while my idea is just 2 clicks ( MCP + delete all )

I think you are right that it could take a lot of coding and might be a big job so they don't make this feature

I'm not waiting, I'm using the way of Dan Stylez ( forum type change )

Thanks alot

There is a simple solution to this.

Go to the ACP/Forums and edit that forum - make it as Category and you will be asked to delete or move ALL of its posts.
Delete them all, once done roll back the Category as Forum, it will preserve the same name etc..

Have you investigated the Auto Prune option?

I tried it today.
The operation is simple.

But if you have a board with many forums, subforums and sub-subforums, it is a hard work.

I used ‘prune forum’ instead.

Setting the criteria, it may not delete ALL posts but it deletes most posts and preserves most active forums which meet my need to debulk or shrink my board.

I think this would be better as an extension, I don’t think many people would want this. Server limitations would still have to be taken in to account either way.
