Background Refresh

Post by halil16 »

A built-in option may be offered: Enable Background Refresh?

If enabled, the system will perform a check every minute when the user does not refresh the page, if there is a new notification, the notification will appear. If new messages are received, an alert will appear telling it to refresh the page for it. These happen before the page is refreshed.

I think you know what I mean. Some of you may say that this will tire the system and consume extra energy. I also think it is very useful. If the user has insufficient resources, this feature will not be activated.

Both notification and messages icon can light up. A warning may appear on the homepage and topic pages telling it to refresh the page.

I said once a minute, but it would be nice if it could be adjusted from the ACP.

Best regards.

You mean something along the lines that Invision has?

I don't quite understand what Invision has. But if you're saying the notification shown, maybe a little.

For example, the user reads messages on a topic. Or he replied to a topic and left it without refreshing the page. Meanwhile, if there is a new message during the automatic checks of the system, a notification is sent in a similar way:

Similarly, it can be on the index or forum page. It can also be in private messages.

And if the user has received a notification, the notification areas light up.

Yes, something like that. It can be like the image you posted, clicking it will load new posts on that page. Maybe, because it might be more difficult than renewing. Maybe better, clicking it will refresh the page and move on to the new post.

Beautiful. :)

If a users leaves a page (not by using back) there will always be a refresh.
Also "replied to a topic" implies that submit was pressed, in which case the latest info/notifications will be presented.
Should a new reply have been made before you submitted your post, then IIRC (but not 100% sure) when pressing submit a notice is already given that a new post was made, allowing you to review your post before resubmitting it

On the other hand, it is not open source, which means you cannot change it or publish it in a modified form.

@warmweer, Yes I know. However, a user can stop at a page doing nothing. While in the forum, it can also work in another tab.

OK, but that's a fringe case and a simple manual refresh isn't exactly a mammoth task.

Skip opening an account, it's hard to even enter the topics. :)
