+1, Like, or something similar

Post by PeeweeHerman »

This would be an option for a showing that you agree to something a user posts without having to post a reply. Shows a comment's popularity without the usual 'I agree' or 'good point' replies.

I think such feature would be nice, but it should be very simple.

For example, current mods like thanks for posts mod are overkill. It has too many controls and shows too much useless information.

There should be just one button: Like. After liking post it should change to Unlike, allowing to revert previous action. Then below post it can show people that liked it (number of people + names of few last people) and on user's profile (not profile on left side of post) show number of likes he gave/received.

I'm moderating a forum with such system (IP.B).
I never thought that it makes sense for the forum system to include such thing. I do think, however, that it should be prepared such that adding one as an extension should be something simple and easy.

Maybe use the option as used here in "Ideas" like the rating system clean and simple.

If implemented, the interface should be minimalistic. I'd be okay with only showing the positive number of upvotes (only if >0 and don't show usernames until the person clicks on the number). Arty's suggestion is fine with me.

I also wouldn't object to this being an extension instead of a core feature.

My users wanted a reputation system, and I installed the Reputation System mod, and I would love to see that implemented. Each post has the option of thumbs up/thumbs down, and the user can leave a comment if they desire.

Now my users are complaining that they can't give reputation for a post from tapatalk, and my understanding is that once it's in the base software, it will be supported by tapatalk.

Problem with simplicity/concept is: you can't trace back when and why someone liked it. If posts change/move/vanish from a topic even more context is gone. Not to speak of activity on the board: people tend to click instead of replying with reasons why they like something (and why not).

Similiar to ideas here: I don't know from each one why he would like it or not.

The way IPB used to do it is that there was a little + button, and then a green icon with the number of +1s in (there was also a - button, but we had that disabled). Clicking the + button would hide the + button, increase the number by one. Clicking on the icon brought up a popup saying who had +1'd the post. You could not unlike (which was annoying; it could have been added to the popup to remain simplistic).
macr.ae = my website. you probably won't like it.

I also agree with Arty. It could be a like button or a thanks button.

This is useful for instance just to say that you liked a post (ex.: a post explaining how to do something). It's like saying thank you but just in one click. Then if you wanna say something else you just reply to the thread.

+1 for this one.

Cheers :)

Interesting idea +1

What about something as the followings where (once implemented) clicking on thumbs will increment corresponding counter:
Every forum or post or user has to have its own counter. Users can see which topic or post or user etc is more appreciated from other voters and can express their own vote...

After the vote/counter can be present a field where voters can explicate better why the voted such way.
