Automatically merge double posts

When someone posts two times in a row in a short space of time, it'd be nice if the posts should be merged, perhaps with some kind of separator between them. It would result in fewer double posts - obviously.

If it the last post in the topic, the topic should also be bumped.

This should be optional, if implemented

Optional for the user, or optional for the admin? If the latter, I agree.

I'd go with for the user, but Opt-Out, so by default it merges

First a moderation feature to "merge" two posts in topic should be fine. Because we haven't any at this time, only for topics.

But i think, we could combine this two functions.

This.

I'd rather have a mod tool to merge two or more posts

I'm against it in the core. If one wants it, then it should be made as an extension.
I only really think that the core should have events that allow doing this exact thing.

What's wrong with it being in the core?

Perhaps the the option to choose between one of the two in the acp so every admin can choose which option they want to use.

It's "kinda" simple thing and can be implemented in many different ways.
For example, the "glue" between them: Some prefer to have an <hr> between them, others prefer a new paragraph others prefer to place just 2 new lines.

I'm near neutral. But still against... I should have made that more explicit.

If the two post are on very different topics why should they be merged?

If I make one post about Android... Then quickly make another post about a congressional farm bill, there's no reason for the two topics to be merged.

That said, I'm against...

You what? Posts, not topics! A double post is two posts in the same topic in a row.

I am with you on this one. Of course it would be optional, but it would be nice to have this option to help automate double posts more easily by default without a mod.
