Post by ***Blaze*** » Mon Jul 15, 2013 11:44 am

1. SEO URL
old url

Code: Select all

viewtopic.php?f=2&t=1
new url

Code: Select all

topic2.html
etc.

2. SEO name for topic title (only TOPIC_TITLE, if have pages TOPIC_TITLE plus number of page)

3. SEO meta name="keywords" and meta name="description"
Add description and keywords (fields for it) for a new topic.

Multiple problems with so-called "SEO" (and it's been pointed out multiple times, just do a search here and at Area51).

1. phpBB is dynamic by nature (as is pretty much ALL bulletin bard software). URLs going to be dynamic no matter what. You'll always have to store a forum_id/topic_id/post_id.

2. You'll still get duplicate URLs if the topic title is changed. Before you say "well this can be solved by adding the topic_id", that's no different than how phpBB currently does it.

Honestly, I don't see why people make such a big fuss about this. phpBB is already "SEO friendly". If it wasn't then why does a Google search for submit_post pop up with topic titles when phpBB uses dynamic URLs?

I think sort of staying on topic with the SEO thing, rather than seo URL's/URI's...That the post i'd's should have numbered titles/<title> tags.

What I mean is that when you view a post which has the 'post number' parameter, the title of the page should reflect the post number on the <title> tag. It's actually quite a big issue as far as Google is concerned. Masses and masses of duplicate <title> tags even though the post content is different.

Example:

Viewing a topic.
website.com/viewtopic.phpf=11&t=22 = <title>Example title</title>

Viewing a topic with post id/parameter.
website.com/viewtopic.phpf=11&t=22#p61 = <title>Example title #p61</title>

I'm using canonical, but I keep the post parameters as canonical too (I don't want google to NOT index individual post links) so still the title tags are the same. :|

This SEO is so senseless. Nothing will change for the users, the url stays complicated and not rememberable.

And if you implemented it, then google/yahoo/bing changes a bit and everything is for the trash bin.

The only good seo is: good content and right after good and semantic code.

Everything else is reading tea leaves.

I see you do not really know this area to advance what you write, the phpBB SEO mod is just coded to not have duplicate ...

Please, use, test a forum on SEO and only after ca say is useless but also do it with supporting figures (before / after)

Regards ;)

You obviously didn't read what I wrote (or just didn't understand it, not sure which).

Here's my support fact/figure - http://www.phpbb-seo.com/en/site/welcome-t83.html. How is that different than http://www.phpbb.com/community/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=1?

I personally would rather see the owner of that site to continue with the work hes been doing since phpbb2 days. Whenever there is an MOD for so called seo coming outta phpbb.com it is half * done and does usually more harm than good.

So no, please no. :)

SEO Urls are imo one of the most basic function for a forum. There is nothing that boost the Google results more than the topic title in an URL...

Imo a Must-Have for a contemporary bulletin board...

SEO urls have nothing to do with a pages topic title.

They have...

At the moment:
viewtopic.php?f=436&t=2189902

SEO-URLs:
topic-2189902.html

Better SEO-URLs:
seo-optimization-t2189902.html

Do you have statistics to back this claim up? Also, if this were try why does a search for "Adding custom profile field to memberlist" come up with this link as the first result?
