Search by date range

Post by Floyd »

It would be great if the search function could search by the date range of posts, i.e., start date and end date. For example, if I know that the post I'm looking for was around Nov 2011, then I should be able to limit the search to that range and narrow the results.

Instead of supplying a range I suggest adding 2 text lines:
  1. posts created on or after
  2. posts created on or before.
This way you can leave one of both empty instead of always typing a full range and you avoid the difficulties on how to recognize the way the user separated two dates.

Input recognition can be copied from searching a user's registration date, which already wants yyyy-mm-dd. Adding time recognition is no problem aswell.

From my experiences I suggest adding two radiobuttons aswell:
  1. interpret date relative to the timezone as in my settings (pre-selected; best would be to also print the current setting aswell)
  2. interpret date in UTC / GMT still a lot of people either don't know about timezones or aren't aware of their settings and these options should at least ring a bell on how vague their input can be.

Also the search should then expect both keyword and author inputs to be empty, while now one of both is mandatory.

My current implementation looks like this:

20140909 search date.png (10.21 KiB) Viewed 234 times
