Notification of moderator actions

Post by Ideas Bot » Thu May 10, 2018 2:32 pm

It would be much nicer if phpbb would tell the members about actions of moderators.

If a moderator would delete a post, the user could receive a notification in his notification center stating that his post has been deleted and the reason given by the moderator is displayed.

This would save the moderators the work of writing the user again directly, if they do it.

It is not very inviting if the member is not so involved in the events.

Years ago I implemented 3 UCP modules:
  1. Post edit reasons: list all posts which have an edit reason and where the last editor is not the user himself or where the user edited a post not his own.
  2. Topic tracker: list all user's topics which were subject to moderation (moved/merged/deleted).
  3. Reports: list all reports which were either created by the user or where the report reason is "offline/gone/broken" and the user is the post author.
I'm pretty sure nobody is using them at all. Almost nobody is reading edit reasons either, and when moderation is needed for every third post or more we point users to that module and they either ignore it or were unaware of its existence. And then there are moderators who don't use the edit reason in most cases.

Your idea is good, but I'm very sure you're like 1 in 250 who would even notice instead of ignoring it.

So I really like the moderation area. Everything is nicely listed there.

But unfortunately only the moderators have a complete overview, while the users are often really confused.

As far as the reason for editing is concerned, I think it is very good.

But maybe you could highlight it so that when a moderator edits a post, it looks more official than when a user edits himself.
And perhaps this could also be linked to a notification to the user.

I’d be inclined to make an extension request.

There are no ‘threads’ in phpBB, they are topics.

The "Advanced BBCode Box" extension has a "Comment by Mod" code that may be of use

@david63

Yes, I also use an Edit BBCode, but just because the reason goes down at phpbb.

Otherwise I would rather use the justification function of phpbb.

But that's just a side discussion here, too.
