Allow "Auto-Locking" of Topics

Post by Heo32 »

Topics get old. After a while, it could get pointless for topics to receive responses from users.

I would like to see the ability for topics to get auto-locked after a period of time (as a forum feature and option), with the ability to choose a time period in which topics get auto-locked due to being considered too old to receive future replies to them.

Agreed with 3Di.
I have many "old" topics (e.g. newspaper/website -comments on recurring events) which are dormant but are resurrected almost every year.
An autolock feature would need too many configuration options (topic-based/forum-based).
As an extension yes, default feature no.
Spelling is freeware, which means you can use it for free.
On the other hand, it is not open source, which means you cannot change it or publish it in a modified form.

Perhaps I should resurrect this and make it 3.2 compatible - viewtopic.php?f=456&t=2322306

Isn't pruning just this type of thing? With the one and only difference that you still want to keep the topics instead of deleting them (but instead locking them)? Manual or automatic pruning and an additional option to lock topics should be a great compromise in terms of management.

Apart from this you're already able to lock several topics at once thru MCP > Main > View forum.
