make the mass email more effective

Post by TheButcher2 » Wed Jan 09, 2019 7:04 pm

I hope this is the right place to suggest this, the mass email needs more sorting options. I said this before last year on another topic.

You should be able to sort and send mass emails based on when the members last posted, or how many posts they have.....

Peace

That would be filters. Sorting something doesn't reduce its size/amount - I have no clue why you want all e-mails being sent in a sorted order, sounds like you have no clue about e-mail transportation.

I think he means segmenting emails.

Yes to kamaleon and EDI you are both correct, I asked if it was possible realized it doesn't seem to have too many constructive ways to achieve it, and figured let me hire someone to code it if that is possible.

And let me explain my thinking a little more. This is possible with the previous forum script I was using since 2004., I won't mention it in case it violates any rules here to name other scripts.

Sending an email to a member who has not visited or say posted in 6 months is a good way to remind them that the board is there. Or say you want to send to members who are very active and thank them, or to members who joined and have a few posts, make them feel welcome. If you catch my drift.

Hopefully I'll find a programmer who can manipulate the code to meet my needs.

Peace

mass email is not ideal

Post by TheButcher2 » Tue Apr 30, 2019 9:04 pm

I brought this up in the past, the mass email feature on phpbb is not ideal. You need to be able to fine tune the mail by variables, such as.

By join date, last post date, last visit to the board, post count.....

It is useful to send an email to members who have not posted in say the past 6 months, but you can't right now because it goes to everyone.

Just mass emailing all registered users is causing problems, especially when you have a lot of members.

Not to be rude but I was using Vbulletin from late 2004 until January 2018, that script had all these options and more. How do we get the mass email to be more functional in the next update.

Peace

That's a wrong point of view to begin with: in UCP > Board preferences > Edit global settings > Administrators can email me information everybody is free to select "No" and he won't get mass e-mails. Not to speak of deactivated and banned accounts.

I think you misunderstood my point, I know that part of the deal. But for those who accept emails form the board is the ones I am referring to.

Let's say you want board emails, and post daily, which quite a few of my members do, and then there is another guy who has not posted in 6 months, I want to fine tune the list so I don;t send an email saying

"Hi Joe Blow it's been a long time you have not visited the board, is there anything you need...."

Now sending that to you who posts everyday is redundant and looks foolish.

You get my point?
