Hi,

It would be good if phpBB had a reputation system, like MyBB.

this is available as an extension and may be available on some future version as default.

Such extension is obsolete and not really full working. About future plans I have no references yet.
Moreover, I am voting no as per I do not think that's a feature that could be included in the core.

my opinion, not that anyone asked, is that reputation/karma/upvote/downvote etc. are all things that are
kind of silly for adults to worry about in a discussion board.

Those are just toys to be added as extensions, IMHO. For a bunch or more of good reasons.

Reputation systems tend to increase nepotism (same as Likes) and are in many cases misused.
As an extension, why not, since it can be tailored to specific needs? As a default feature: bloat.

Indeed. I can see users potentially being down-voted simply for having opinions that a majority of or a good chunk of other users don't really like. A mobocracy of sorts punishing some users for being "other." I have been on boards with that type of system, and I really don't like it.

I actually have it on my board right now, but I don't know how to rate as a normal user. I know about rating in the ACP, but I can't seem to find a Rate button on a users profile.

"Reputation system"s sooner or later work against you - it only needs a few idiots to ruin it for everyone. And if you start moderating/banning problematic members they start to signup anew instead of behaving better, and that's where most administrators have no clue how to recognize re-registrants to sort them out.

What are your pros and cons for wanting such a feature?
