Delete "Post reply" button.

Post by Ancient Viking »

This is an idea based on what KINGSLAYER said...

Hey,

Anyone know where the "Post reply" button is located?

I'd like to remove it,

The reason is because I have a quick reply box and right underneath it, it says "Post reply" which obviously deletes your reply and takes you to another page..

I think this is going to confuse users and frustrate them when there reply is gone because they pressed the wrong button, because it stands out way more than the "Submit reply" button on the quick reply extension

Would appreciate any help,

Thanks.

I can't believe I haven't notice this before until he said that and I think having a few options for that in the ACP would beneficial for any admin.

1. Removing the "Post reply" button after the admin have enabled the quick reply for all forums in the ACP.
2. Adding the "Post reply" button after disabling the quick reply for all forums in the ACP, if that's feasible of course.

Or at least have some information about that in the Post Settings in the ACP.

or just don't worry about it as is. ;)

I never noticed or thought about the fact that the reply button was right there with the submit button for the quick reply.
I think that most people would just ignore it if they do happen to notice it. It has been this way since quick reply came out with 3.0 and I believe and this is the first time I have seen anybody mention it here.

Personally I’ve never understood the need for quick reply. If I visit a forum which has quick reply enabled I always go straight to the full editor which can do the same as quick reply and more.

Which choice the user makes is up to him and a change to Full Editor and a preview makes sense.

BTW:
It may be helpful to include a standard note on using the "QuickReply" via FAQ.

This should be a personal setting, not something that affects the board entirely.

You're the same as me Mick, except I don't even bother to scroll to the bottom to see if Quick Reply is enabled.

I am curious why the option to display quick reply on certain forums and not others is even there.
what would be the deciding factor of displaying it in one forum and not on others?

If one or the other had to be removed: I certainly wouldn't keep the Quick Reply.
Spelling is freeware, which means you can use it for free.
On the other hand, it is not open source, which means you cannot change it or publish it in a modified form.

Nor mine. We want to encourage thoughtful discussion on our boards, not quick drive by thoughts.

I guess it becomes a matter of what the board is about and whether or not Quick Reply makes sense. Too much of the world has been reduced to 144 characters or less, meaningless acronyms or text shortcuts.

But why, just use the full editor?

^ as all know, Quick Reply is meant to be used for quickly responding.
loading another page, submitting content & reloading page takes some time !
