Correct way to get the JW player (V6) working in posts

Post by PhpAwesome »

Hi guys,

Whats the correct MOD or way to get this > http://www.longtailvideo.com/ player working in posts.

I've already tried some of the suggested mods i found via search and they seem outdated because its now version 6 of this player.

Thanks! :D

If you have the HTML replacement we could probably help you but as we don't know that much about the player in question you need to give us some more information. There is some information on the site you linked to, try searching for bbcode on there.

Ok cool i asked ethan (the guy at longtail) and he doesn't know what phpbb supports. He linked me to their quick start guide here:

http://www.longtailvideo.com/support/jw ... tart-guide

Which contains 2 bit of possible relevant code as far as my untrained eye can see:

Code: Select all

<script type="text/javascript" src="/jwplayer/jwplayer.js" ></script>
This to include the JW player in your page.

And this to embed the player:

Code: Select all

<div id="myElement">Loading the player...</div>

<script type="text/javascript">
    jwplayer("myElement").setup({
        file: "/uploads/example.mp4",
        image: "/uploads/example.jpg",
    });
</script>
So im thinking it needs adjusting slightly for a bbcode mod?

Anyone ever find a working solution for JW Player 6? Would love to have the option for multiple versions of the same video - mp4, ogg, flv, etc.

So many people are using mobile devices these days and flash is becoming absolute. If not JW Player 6, is there another player that is good for self hosted videos on phpBB?

I have sat here all night trying to work out the code values, Would seem I have to add the div element like above
if I want to have a up to date player working like 6.xx

as you need this code for it to function 2013

Code: Select all

<div id="myElement">Loading the player...</div>

<script type="text/javascript">
    jwplayer("myElement").setup({
        file: "/uploads/example.mp4",
        image: "/uploads/example.jpg",
    });
</script>
Using there wizard is very easy as you add the video file and splash type image and you only get given one skin and some other options and they generate the code like below

Code: Select all

<head> Insert this line of code into your webpage's <head> tag to load the cloud-hosted JW Player*
<script src="http://URL THEY GIVE YOU"></script>

<body> Copy the embed code below and paste it into the <body> of your webpage HTML.
<div id='Unique Code They Give'></div>
<script type='text/javascript'>
    jwplayer('Unique Code They Give').setup({
        file: 'added on setup',
        image: 'choose on setup',
        title: 'choose on setup',
        width: 'choose on setup',
        aspectratio: 'choose on setup',
        fallback: 'choose on setup',
        primary: 'choose on setup'
    });
</script>
Worked fine with me adding the script to my overall header template file
then changing the location of my (to) file: '{URL}', and adding this into my bbcode adding area

as bbcode usage = [yourchoice]{URL}[/yourchoice]

then for replacement =

Code: Select all

<div id='Unique Code They Give'></div>
<script type='text/javascript'>
    jwplayer('Unique Code They Give').setup({
        file: '{URL}',
        image: 'choose on setup',
        title: 'choose on setup',
        width: '100%',
        aspectratio: '16:9',
        fallback: 'false',
        primary: 'flash'
    });
</script>
all worked fine, but I am governed by adding it again every time I need a different image
and it would of got messy ((I am no coder just know half what I am looking at **Maybe someone else knows))

I am still governed by the skin they give me, So I used another older version
player.zip
the player I used in a zip
(94.91 KiB) Downloaded 64 times
This player will allow sharing via a menu (a example is on the article spinner link in my signature)

how did I use it in bbcode

Code: Select all

bbcode usage = [yourchoice]{URL}[/yourchoice]

bbcode replacement =
<object type="application/x-shockwave-flash" data="URL TO THE /player.swf" width="XXX" height="XXX">
	<param name="wmode" value="transparent" />
        <param name="stretching" value="exactfit" />
	<param name="movie" value="URL TO THE /player.swf" />
	<param name="flashvars" value="file={URL}" />
	</object>
bbcode helpline BEING = [yourchoice]link to video file[/yourchoice]

I am not displaying the button on front end.
{URL} BEING LOCATION OF VIDEO
XXX BEING VIDEO SIZE
==============================
Now that is just a standard skin with sharing, I tried another method using a skin
and that worked for me as well using the player attached.
I got a skin from here first of my choice

Code: Select all

http://www.longtailvideo.com/addons/
uploaded it unzipped so I had a xml file with all image file from the zip in same directory.

in bbcode add area I added

Code: Select all

bbcode usage = [yourchoice]{URL}[/yourchoice]

bbcode replacement =
<embed
src="URL TO THE /player.swf"
width="XXX"
height="XXX"
allowscriptaccess="always"
allowfullscreen="true"
flashvars="width=450&&skin= URL TO THE SKIN.XML&volume=50&stretching=exactfit&displayclick=none&fullscreen=true&file={URL}"
/>
bbcode helpline BEING = [yourchoice]link to video file[/yourchoice]
I am not displaying the button on front end.
{URL} BEING LOCATION OF VIDEO
XXX BEING VIDEO SIZE

Hope these methods help a few people out and maybe someone more advanced than me with coding
could tell me a method of using the up to date player but being free it has got limitation to the version 6.xx
and big changes to the way the code is being used now, I suppose adding a css class for something like mediaspace would be good but no where has the code to copy so I can do that, even then no skin code.

I will be sticking with my viral share player or to be more flashy the one using my chosen skin
all from the coding above and player zip attached. ((player is a old version which was free at the time))

Let me know if it helps you out, I will be trying to get the new 6.xx player working using bbcode
tomorrow and will update here.
