How do I congure the board to display [c]

Post by AndyAero95 »

I've just tried to apply Plain Text to my board but it doesn't work? What am I doing wrong? :?

Not working for me?

The Admin section tells me the phpBB installation is not up to date, (and being new to this, I'd rather not undertake an update, unless there's a decent guide to this?), but would this be preventing the plain text code?

From what version you want to update or upgrade?

What's wrong with this update/upgradeguide?
Spelling is freeware, which means you can use it for free.
On the other hand, it is not open source, which means you cannot change it or publish it in a modified form.

How can you not be sure which code you used?
You wanted to use

Code: Select all

[c]...[/c]
so check the bbcodes in the ACP to see the code which is being used.

Also you mentioned your board not being up to date. How not up to date is it? And being new to this, I suspect you've just installed a board, so why not start afresh with an 3.2.5 board, or ask for assistance in updating?

Janus, we're currently on V.3.0.11.

Warmeer, I've no idea? I'm new to this aspect of things. My worry is breaking the forum while updating the phpBB system?

BTW, code is working fine now, having added it to custom BB Codes. Although, as I'd not added an explanation of the code, it seems to have remained invisible to users in the "compose" field

when you create a bbcode you have to tell it to display in the posting screen along with all the other bbcodes.
you also have to put in a description of how to use it if you wish.

you can go back to the admin panel, posting tab,
find your bbcode listed there and click on the green gear icon at the far right. that will allow you to edit the settings for the bbcode.

if you follow the instructions in the upgrade guide you will be fine because the very first instruction is to make a backup of the files and the database.

as long as you have a backup there is nothing you can do to break it so bad that you can't recover it in just a few clicks and a little time.
