BBCode Search Results Issue

Post by DBG1 »

I think this issue has been noted before, but apparently text within any BBCode is not searchable on the site. The problem is we had some use of a color in the past for text that was used a in BBCode a lot before and we want to go back and remove all use of that text color from the site. The color was #BF0000, a search on the site doesn't find anything, but there are a lot of posts with that color embedded. So my question:

1 - Is there any way to do a search to find all the posts that contain this #BF0000 color code so I can replace it in all those posts?

2 - Or the preferred method would be a change I could make to the core coding so that I can do searches in the future and obtain search results within BBCode too. I would probably have to re-index the search on the site after any code change so that all the missing text gets into the search results, but that would be fine.

Thank you

probably have to do it in the actual database. I b elieve that is the only place that the actual text of the bbcode is found.

Thanks. But this is text within BBCode that I am searching for. Not searching for the code itself. Is there any way to have the text within all BBCode indexed into the search results as well?

I think that this may be related to this - https://tracker.phpbb.com/browse/PHPBB3-16464

On my board and on phpBB.com I can search and find text within BBcode:
see search.php?keywords=holiday&fid%5B0%5D=26
First hit is within BBcode

"notification" is found, "holiday" also

edit : Oops, the question is related to the BBcode itself.

Spelling is freeware, which means you can use it for free.
On the other hand, it is not open source, which means you cannot change it or publish it in a modified form.

That looks to be exactly the problem I have. So there is no way to find that color code in a search?

No, it means that "Fulltext Native" is the culprit - if you switch to one of the other search indexes you should not have a problem finding such a post. See the manual.

The problem is probably not my English but you do not want to understand correctly.
