VSE, do you have any plans for adding input validation for the acp options of this extension or the topic preview?
Say if an admin accidentally types a letter instead of a number in the Number of Similar Topics to display field, upon submission its value is automatically converted to zero and you may not notice it :(

Maybe. It's not an issue at the moment. Actual bad input can not be submitted. Just user error. It's really no different than if a user meant to type in 5 but entered 55. They'll realize their mistake soon enough ;)

that's fair enough :D

I am using the 3.0 mod of this right now and I do see various "old threads" coming back - resurrected from members seeing the thread title via this "similar topics mod" then clicking on the related thread and hey presto, you have a resurrected thread when that member adds a reply!

to me this is great and I can rarely understand why some admins have a problem with old threads being "resurrected," but that is precisely what you could get from this extension !! 8-) 8-)

I think having the similar topics on a topic page is helpful to the user, I would like to see this bundled in the default phpBB installation, with an option to enable/disable similar to the quick reply feature.

work just if the titles have the same name ? for example I have 3 topics with the same prefix begin like here:
[3.1-RC2] One title | [3.1-RC2] Second title | [3.1-RC2] Another title
but are not displayed on similar topics... (and all three contain [3.1-RC2])
If I create Test Topic 1 | Test Topic 2 | Test Topic 3 work :?
phpBBadvanced.com - phpBB templates. 3.0.12 Zaroon (need forum account to download.)

Only works with words of 4 chars or more in English or 3 chars or more in non English.

I have a recommendation. I understand it may not be in the scope of this extension, but I'll shoot anyway.

So how about having another visual/style mode to choose from?

The default one shows a list of similar topics in a forum-style section. What I'd like to propose is another mode that shows similar topics next to each other in blocks that contain an image thumbnail and the title. Like blogs do it:
blog-similar-topics.png
blog-similar-topics.png (149.7 KiB) Viewed 826 times
The image can be pulled from the first post of the topic if there is one that meets certain size requirements, otherwise use noimage.jpg

Yeah, that's not gonna happen for a number of reasons.

mainly, most posts don't have images, so most of them will be no-image, so won't look very appealing. On top of that, querying and digging into the actual posts, finding if there are images, etc. will add major resource drain on an already heavy lift in viewtopic. The whole point of similar topics, code wise, is to be as low impact as possible.

Is there a update feature? I'd like all the settings I had for 3.0.12 to copy over to 3.1.0. Will this be possible? Or will I have to readjust those properties again for certain subforums?

Your 3.0.12 settings from the MOD will be kept when updating.

Ah, that's great!

Curious, I just installed it. (please note it's on a offline site), but I could not find where I can make adjustments to it. Is that possible? If yes, where?
