It kind of doesn't look to good if there is a few styles on forum and user use different style than default style (eg. user use dark style and default style is prosilver).

Edit: is possible to make transparent background, so it would use background color of post?
(Link to testing board with dark prosilver based style and Board Announcement ext. set for prosilver).
If it doesn't do it already, we will make it use the same default color as a forum rule. That way, if you don't change to custom colors it will just use the colors defined by each style.

This is a 3.1 extension. You should post in the 3.0 MOD Requests forum.
you are not properly understood. I meant to do it on phpbb 3.1.

In a word, no. You can simply format a single announcement block using BBcodes to your heart's desire. The purpose of this extension is to set announcements. Announcements only need to be seen once by a user, after which point they are un-needed. If what you want is some kind of long term forever present block of information, that's what the Forum Rules are for. Also an extension like Board Rules can help with that. Or finally, perhaps adding some custom style changes to your board on your own will allow you to make a permanent display of information in your desired locations.

What you are asking about are not really announcements, but rather, information blocks. This extensions is not intended to do anything like that. The purpose of this extension is to announce to your users a piece of news, like upcoming scheduled maintenance, or a change in policy, or an upcoming member event, or a new feature added that they can use on the board, or a beware of a SPAM user on the board, etc etc etc.

That would be great.

Are you aware that using LIST BBCode does not work in this mod. Try using this with it.

Code: Select all

[*]List Test
[/list]

yeah looking forward to it
This extension will allow administrators to easily give simple announcements for their board. These announcements will be displayed on all pages for every user. Users can close announcements so that they individually do not see them any longer.
These announcements will be displayed on all pages for every user. All pages? Sounds a bit OTT but then ...

Users can close announcements so that they individually do not see them any longer. So that cancels the "ALL PAGES" bit whichever page they cancel it from  so all is well :D

I have noticed though, if you close your forum for "maintenance page". That announcement is still displayed even on that. But that maintenance page already shows a message box, don't think the announcement should be shown also on it, not on maintenance page.

Not sure 100%, but think it got shown on it before when I installed it? You'd have to double check that though?

Also think there should be usergroup permissions with it. What if you only want to show an announcement to members, not guest. Or even one just to staff for that matter? You can't do it because it doesn't work based on which usergroups can view it.

What if the announcement has nothing to do with whether the forum is offline for maintenance? Not to mention you can create a far better announcement if it is regarding the scheduled downtime too than what the standard text string allows, if so inclined.

There is an option to show guests the announcement, or show it to registered users only. Other than that, this is a board announcement feature, so trying to limit the announcement to a single group, like moderators, is missing the point. The PM system and private forums are better ways of getting private group only info to those members.

Something and nothing really, but worth mentioning since you fixed the list to work in it now. There is no "indentation spacing" happening with list on left. If you use PREVIEW option in the mod it shows indentation used, but when looking at message posted on forum it isn't used. Look at the image and compare rules to announcement - with both using LIST in them.

But when I look at message written in Admin CP using PREVIEW option, can you see the difference?

Spotted another thing with this. Not sure what you'd think about this one?

Add some URL links to text and then hit "PREVIEW" mode. You cannot see any links shown to you in the text. They only show up as links when you move your mouse over text and it becomes underlined (but other that it looks like no links have been added) in preview mode - not until you do that to spot they are there.

Understand that the preview mode is not a true preview...just like the preview mode of the Signature editor in the ACP.

The ACP is styled by a completely different stylesheet than the actual forum's styles. As a result, some things, like how URL links appear, and ordered lists, etc. will be slightly different inside the ACP.

Obviously, since a board can have any style it wants, which can totally change fonts, colors, and other things, the preview in the ACP will never be an exact duplicate of what it will look like out in the board area - because out there it could be anything. And this extension has to use as much styling as it can from the forum's style - for compatibility - which means in the ACP it will also be subject to the ACP's stylesheet rules, which will be different than the forum styles.

Well yeah, I understand that and gathered as much about using CSS from admin panel in backend for links displayed in preview. Did you look into other thing I mentioned before that though, no indentation getting used with ORDERED LIST displayed on forum. That problem is not related to how it gets displayed in admin panel preview (which is actually shown correct). But on forum it isn't and uses no indentation.
